The Dust Bowl
AMERICA'S TRAGIC PAST MAY BECOME A REALITY
Why did the first dust bowl occurr?
The first dust bowl occurred because of a drought. The Dust Bowl drought of the 1930s was one of the worst environmental disasters of the Twentieth Century anywhere in the world.” The climate was very hot. The weather conditions prevailing in an area in general or over a long period was very bad during the dust bowl. The Haboob started to pick up dust. “The Dust Bowl drought of the 1930s was one of the worst environmental disasters of the Twentieth Century anywhere in the world.” “Three million people left their farms on the Great Plains during the drought and half a million migrated to other states, almost all to the West.”
Explanation of how another Dust storm could happen?
“If another period of high winds and low rainfall were to strike the U.S. Plains, it is possible that another Dust Bowl could occur.” “Some scientists believe that adopting more dedicated soil conservation and sustainable agriculture practices could help prevent another Dust Bowl.” In other words if hard winds start again our soil will become dry and little or no rain fall which will occur a drought.
Plan of action for preventing another dust bowl?
“The dust bowl was caused when the native prairie grasses were replaced by agricultural crops, which are far less efficient at preventing erosion (wind erosion in this case). It could have been prevented by constructing windbreaks and shelterbelts as agricultural fields were created, which is how the problem was eventually solved.” To prevent it we need to invent a machine that will clear out the dust.
