BH Spelling Bee Winner, 4th Grade
Jameson Justice and Molly Jones
Winner and Runner-Up (Molly 6th grade)
Mrs. Greene, Spelling Bee Coordinator
Happy New Year and our second semester of this school year! We as a team, were excited to welcome back students on Wednesday. We were hit with some really cold days and appreciate your extra patience at arrival and dismissal.
This week on Friday, we held our school Spelling Bee and invited families of participants to view the event virtually. Congratulations to Jameson Justice from Mrs. Shultz's 4th grade class that qualified as the Benninghoven winner for this school year. Molly Jones, a 6th grade student in Mrs. Reynold's homeroom class is the runner up. Jameson will move forward to the county bee later this month. Good luck!
As county COVID numbers rise, we continue to ask for cooperation to monitor your child. Please reach out to Nurse Riffel if your child is exposed to someone that tests positive, or is experiencing symptoms. More detailed information is included below.
When I meet with my team each week, we acknowledge the challenges, unknowns, questions, and uncertainties. But we also pause and reflect on WHO WE ARE as a BH community! I truly believe Benninghoven has some of the greatest staff, students, parents, and community that will TOGETHER help us be successful! Thank you for partnering with us and the daily trust you embrace.
Thanks for all you do! Stay safe!
Have a wonderful weekend,
All the best,
Anna Jensen, Principal

Covid Info. and Vaccine Updates (Repeat)
As we prepare for second semester and the likelihood of increased COVID cases after winter break, we are asking parents of students who have received the vaccine to provide documentation of their student’s COVID vaccine to the school nurse. While COVID vaccine documentation is not required, it helps the school nurses in two ways:
1. Students who are asymptomatic, with documentation of being fully vaccinated, are not excluded from school if exposed to a positive case.
2. Nurses can better estimate the number of fully vaccinated students in a building which is useful information when there are outbreaks.
Again, while COVID vaccine documentation is not required, it would be helpful to the school nurses.
Vaccine Clinic Info (also emailed from SMSD Communications) (Repeat)
SMSD Vaccination Clinics
The Shawnee Mission School District (SMSD) is working with community partners to host FREE vaccination clinics in our schools.
- All clinics offer 1st doses, 2nd doses, and boosters to individuals 5 years old and up.
- Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson and Johnson will be available at each clinic as supplies are available.
- Clinics are open to SMSD students and their family members, and SMSD staff and their family members. Clinics are also advertised publicly and community members may attend.
- If you have it, please bring your insurance card, driver’s license/proof of address, and COVID vaccination card (for Dose 2 and boosters).
- If you forget your vaccination card, another one will be provided to you.
- Remember to wear clothing that allows access to the upper arm/shoulder.
- Parents are required to attend and provide consent for vaccination.
