From the Principal
This past week we held a Math Night for grades K - 5. We had a great turnout. Dr. Kubek, Elementary Mathematics and Gifted and Talented Coordinator, presented to families on our math standards and components of EnVision. Teachers worked with families and children on a Solve and Share activity as well as in small groups. Families were exposed to and participated in small group activities, Chromebook games, and engaged in math discussions.
Often times we discuss the difficulties parents/guardians sometimes have when supporting their children in the area of mathematics. This made me think of a resource that CCPS offers to families. There are math podcasts that were created to share strategies and tools to assist with homework. Please check them out: https://www.ccps.org/Page/446. We encourage you to reach out to your child's teacher if you have any additional questions.

Penny Wars
1,2,3,4 Cecilton Tigers Declare It Penny War 2020
Ahoy ye Cecilton mateys, tis treasure we be seeking. The crew to bring in the most pennies and paper money will receive the glory. If it's silver coins that ye be bringing, they hold a curse, so smartly add those to another crew's booty to keep your treasure safe. The crew that ends on top will receive a feast of treasure worthy of only the best ship's Captains. Let the plundering begin!
Pennies and paper money are “positive.”
Here’s how it works:
The War has begun! Poor 5th Grade is taking a HIT from the other grade levels.
Containers are located in the front lobby.
Each penny counts as positive points for YOUR grade level.
Each silver coin counts as negative points for OTHER grade levels. In other words, dropping a quarter in another grade’s bucket takes 25 points from their total.
At the end of the day on February 28th, all change/points will be tallied and the grade level with the most points will win a PIZZA PARTY.
Random Acts of Kindness
February 17 is Random Acts of Kindness Day. To celebrate Cecilton Elementary is going to turn the month of February into Random Acts of Kindness Month. Each week we are going to have a different activity where the students will be able to show kindness to each other.
Week 3 - February 18-21 - Sometime during the week students will write a letter to one of our local organizations thanking them for their service.
Week 4 - February 24-28 - Compliment Boxes - Each homeroom will receive a Compliment Box. During the week students may write a compliment to a classmate and put it into the box. During the week the teacher will read the different compliments to the class and give the compliments to the students after they are read.
We hope that your child will enjoy our celebration of being kind to each other. We are looking forward to seeing kindness spread throughout Cecilton Elementary!.
