College Go! Week
September 23-27 is College Go! week in Indiana. Schools across the state will be helping students explore information and resources designed to help Hoosiers plan for education beyond high school. Although not everyone goes to a traditional 4-year college, everyone will need some type of post-secondary training. Career choice determines the level and type of training each student will pursue.
At SMS, we will celebrate College Go! Week by starting each morning with a fight song from a college or university an SMS staff member graduated from. During homeroom, our teachers and staff will be talking to their students about their college experience. Everyone is encouraged to wear college apparel all week. During guidance lessons this week, Mrs. Naugle and Mrs. Asdell will be sharing college resources and information with students as well as doing a giveaway of college swag.
Students please talk to your family members about their education experiences after high school. Share with your family what careers you are interested in and what type of training, college or otherwise, you are interested in pursuing.
Find out more about these Indiana colleges and universities via these virtual tours from Learn More Indiana.
Newsy Notes
- Tonight is the second and final night for the SMS Parent-Student-Teacher Conference program. Our doors will be open from 3:30-6:30 PM. All students and parents/guardians are invited. Park in the activity (west) lot and enter door 11. Key ingredients are the student, the iPad, and the conference review papers that will be picked up at team tables. Participants will receive Warrior points for Accountability AND Involvement as well as slushies for all attending family members.
- iPad screens are breaking at an alarming rate this fall. We've already had six students damage their devices. Be careful with your device. Put the cover on the device when not in use. Hold the iPad by the edges instead of putting your fingers inside the back cover. iPads with broken screens are shipped out for repair. The current cost for a cracked screen (broken digitizer) is $79 and repair takes two weeks. When a repaired iPad is returned to the student, it is kept in the office each night until the repair bill is paid in full. Take care of your device 24/7!
- The 2019 UN fUNdraiser will start soon! We'll launch this year's all-school fundraiser on Tuesday, October 1st and conclude it on Friday, October 11th. Watch next week's Scoop for more info. Our program is unlike ANY OTHER in the district and your family and friends will love it! Save up some dollars and get ready to support our school!
Varga Assembly Review
- taking ACTION to reach dreams,
- keeping hope alive- along as there is breath, there is hope!
- recognizing that we don’t know everyone’s story so we should treat everyone with care,
- choosing our friends wisely, and
- remembering that when we fall down or fail, that we should get back up. Every single time.
