Dear Fryelands Families,
We hope you have had an awesome week. What are you most proud of this week?
When to pick up Learning Materials
Next pick up is Oct. 19th (every other Monday)
When: 11:30am-1:30pm
What if we can’t make the pick up time?
Call the office at 360-804-3400 to schedule a pick up time during office hours
Office hours 8am to 4:30pm
What if I can’t make the office hours time?

We can have someone here before 8am or after 4:30pm, if needed.
Be in the Know- Kindergarten comes back in-person on October 12th
- Kindergarteners and family on campus NO EARLIER than 8:45 am
- Park cars in parking lot area and walk up to your attestation
- All students and adults must wear a mask on school grounds
- *PARENTS, PLEASE WRITE CHILD’S NAME ON MASK
- All students and adults must social distance from others at least 6 feet
- All students and adults must stand on the yellow circles and wait in line
Check-in Stations
- Faster check-in = Students with completed paper attestation forms will be able to enter the building and their classroom, after a temperature check.
- Students without completed attestation forms will need to have them completed by parents/guardians prior to entering the building. This will include a temperature check.
- Students will then use hand sanitizers or wash hands when entering the building
- No one except students and staff should be inside the building or on the playground.
- No visitors, parents, or siblings.
Recess
Students will have a 15 minute recess during their day with us
Please bring/wear clothes for outside Washington weather
Masks are not required at recess, but can be worn
Social distancing is still required at recess and we will help them with this
The bark area will be open to play for a cohort group (one class at a time)
Only two cohorts will go out at a time to play and in separate areas on the playground
Handwashing/hand sanitizer
Used when entering the building
After any bathroom use
After recess
Before lunch
Before going home
12 Noon Departure - students will exit through three places ONLY
- Door #1 Flagpole (park car and walk up to flagpole area)
- Door #3 Car Pick Up Line
- Door #4 Northgate (by grass field area)
October 22nd is Curriculum Night
Teacher teams will share a short video that you can watch on Oct. 22nd after 6 pm.
We will share:
What kids will know and be able to do by the end of the year (essential standards)
How learning will be assessed
Important routines for families to know
Parent Conferences October 26-30th
Curriculum Night is not a night for individual student questions you may have. We will have that opportunity at Parent Teacher Conferences the week of Oct. 26-Oct. 30. Always, if you have questions that need to be answered now, please call or email your child’s teacher today and we will respond within 24 hours.

Free School Meals End on December 31st
While we are currently offering FREE breakfast and lunch to all students, the funding for this program ends December 31, 2020. We know that each year many of our families qualify for free or reduced price meals and it is very important that families who may qualify fill out the annual application now in order to receive free or reduced price meals beyond December 31st!
We know many families may be waiting until January to apply, but it’s imperative you do not wait. If you think there is a chance your family might qualify for free & reduced lunch, please submit your application as soon as possible. The application process is simple and confidential. New this year, is the online application process! Directions for filling out the application online can be found HERE. Prefer print applications? Those can be found here: English/Spanish and returned to any school office or the District Administration Office.
If you qualify for free or reduced price meals, you may also be eligible to receive free internet service at your home. If you qualify for the free or reduced price meal program, you will receive a letter of approval. Once you have this letter, and if you are interested in the free Internet Access Program from the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), please contact Brenda Hunt at: huntb@monroe.wednet.edu or 360.804.2500 to receive the name of the internet provider and the offer/promo code to sign up for free internet. You can find more information on OSPI’s internet program here.
As a reminder, all families wishing to receive free or reduced meals must complete a new application each school year. We care about our students and want to do everything we can to make sure they receive every available support we can offer. If you need assistance filling out the application, please contact your child’s school or the District Administration Office at (360) 804-2500.

McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Act
Do You Qualify?
The Monroe School District implements the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Act. The McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Act of 1987 provides support for homeless children and youth to continue their education without interruption or barriers. If your family is homeless, or if you are in a temporary living situation due to economic circumstances, your preschool-aged and school-aged children have certain rights or protections under federal law.
Who Qualifies?
A child or youth is considered homeless and qualifies for services when he or she lacks a nighttime residence that is fixed, regular, and adequate.
This may include the following:
- Sharing housing due to economic hardship, loss of housing, or a similar reason.
- Living in motels, campgrounds, trailer parks, or similar locations due to lack of alternative, adequate accommodations.
- Transitional housing (a program going from homeless to independent living usually within 24 months).
- Staying in an emergency shelter.
- Children and youth abandoned in hospitals.
- Living in cars, train stations, public spaces, parks, abandoned buildings, and other substandard housing.
- Runaway youth, or children whose parent will not permit them to live at home.
- Unaccompanied youth who are not in the physical custody of a parent or guardian and also meet the McKinney-Vento definition of homeless.
- Migratory children and youth who are living in one of the above situations.

Attendance
Attendance will be taken daily at the end of each day. Teachers will have the ability to adjust attendance for any work that gets submitted during evening hours.
Students will be considered present if they:
Attend daily Zoom meetings, OR...
Were active in Canvas on an assignment, task, video, etc., OR...
Demonstrate evidence of work completion during that calendar day, OR...
Attend office hours or other small group supports, OR...
Communicate with teacher about their work / questions / etc., OR...
Provide some other evidence that they have engaged in some way during that day
If you know your child will be absent, please call our 24 hour attendance hotline at
