The Weekly Bulldog
February 28, 2019
"It sounds like joy."
Tim, above, sits in on choice activities in K-1-2 Room 4 on Tuesday. Spending even a few moments in absorbing creativity with the K-1-2s, he confirms one student’s recent assessment of choice: “It sounds like joy.”
Tim’s Weekly Bulldog letter will have to wait till next week. He’s currently in Long Beach, California, at the National Association of Independent Schools’ annual conference for heads, trustees and senior administrators. This morning, Tim partnered with Stanley’s former finance committee chair, Stanley alum parent and current board mentor Wade Vagle. Their one-hour workshop, “Designing Our Future with Rapid Financial Prototyping,” draws on their work together engaging in financial modeling in a way that empowered our own board with an intuitive understanding of our school’s business model, what’s feasible, what the future holds, and how to remain viable and secure.
Top Five Things
1. A colorful kick-off to auction time!
The Stanley Shindig: Auction 2019 is less than two months away! Auction packets go home at conference time and tickets are on sale now. We're relying on the generosity of all families to make the 2019 auction a smashing success. There are so many ways to contribute so please choose the one that works for you! Find all the details at stanleybps.org/auction.
2. Intentional classroom planning for all students
Walk into any K-8 classroom at Stanley and you will see teachers collaborating. In the Middle School, our learning model allows for weekly co-planning sessions as well as co-teaching with academic area teachers. Learn vividly how this practice looks in a classroom, and why it integrates with Stanley's goals for learners in this week's Learning Report blog.
3. Flu season is spiking in Colorado
Please help our community stay healthy: Remind your kids to cover that cough and wash those hands like fiends. And remember ... When in doubt (wondering your student is healthy enough to come to school?), sit it out!
4. Stanley store is in the spirit March, April & May
The Stanley Store is open again next Friday, March 8, to welcome sales of spirit-wear, grocery cards and more. Watch for us in the Hambidge Commons tomorrow, then throughout the spring months: March 15, April 5 and 19 and May 10.
5. Stanley’s Learning Resource Affinity Group for parents
Are you a parent experiencing the joys and challenges of raising a child who is “differently wired”? Join us March 14 as we connect with one another to watch and discuss Debbie Reber’s TEDx talk, “Why the Future will be Differently Wired…”.
