Falcon Fest THIS Friday 3/22/19
Dear FCI Families,
Mark your calendars for the 20th annual Falcon Fest, March 22nd, 2019 from 6:00-8:30pm! This is a fun-filled night for FCI students ONLY. Students will be able to participate in games, have dinner, and enjoy a fun evening with their friends!
The cost of the evening is $15.00 for early registration and $20.00 at the door. This includes admission and unlimited access to all the games and activities.
Students will be able to purchase food from local restaurants and from the concession stand for an additional cost. PLEASE SEND MONEY WITH YOUR STUDENT FOR FOOD AND CONCESSIONS. Prices will range from $1-$5 per item. Small dollar amounts are encouraged and appreciated.
All students who have pre-registered and paid will received a wristband at school the day of Falcon Fest. They will need to put the wristband on at school and leave it on. Please ensure that your child does NOT take off the wristband before coming to Falcon Fest. The wristband is the student's admission into the event.
Falcon Fest would not continue to be a huge success without the support of our Parents! We are in need of volunteers, donations, and food items for the evening. Please click here to see the Falcon Fest packet for more details.
Thank you,
Falcon Fest Committee

They also have 2100+ school age children running from area schools as part of school teams promoting health.

ATTENTION ALL 5th GRADE STUDENTS & PARENTS!
The FCI 6th Grade Band and Orchestra Programs WANT YOU! You have an exciting opportunity to participate in band or orchestra next year at Fall Creek Intermediate. Participants will learn how to read music and how to play the instrument of their choice. Classes will meet everyday at FCI from 2:15-2:53 next year. All 5th graders will receive information about both programs in their general music classes in April when the directors will be visiting to talk about and demonstrate all of the instruments! Music teachers and Paige’s music personnel will be at FCI during the school day Monday May 6, 2019 to fit all interested students to an instrument. In order to attend a fitting session, students must return the permission form that will accompany their information packet. These will be passed out to student prior to Spring Break. Permission forms are due back to your homeroom teachers to give to directors by Friday 5/3/19. Extras will be passed out during general music on the day of the demonstrations. Demonstration dates will vary depending on your child’s team. By signing the permission form you are not committing to the program, but just allowing your student to come down and try on the instruments! You never know what hidden talent these young musicians possess!
A mandatory registration evening will be held on Wednesday 5/22/19 at 6:30pm to discuss important details about the FCI band and orchestra programs as well as information on obtaining an instrument for your student. This will be held in the FCI gym.
IF YOUR STUDENT WILL BE ATTENDING A DIFFERENT INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL NEXT YEAR OTHER THAN FCI, YOU WILL STILL GO THROUGH THE FITTING PROCESS HERE AT FCI.
We hope to continue the tradition of excellence that these two programs have established. Grab your friends and don’t miss out on all of the fun! COME BE IN BAND OR ORCHESTRA!!

Panorama Surveys to Gather Stakeholder Feedback
HSE Schools is excited to announce a new partnership with Panorama Education. This partnership allows our schools to collect valuable feedback from three critical stakeholder groups: students, parents, and teachers.
Over the next three weeks, we will be conducting surveys to learn more about the perceptions and needs of our school community. All K-12 students will participate in the Panorama Social-Emotional Learning Survey at school during the March 18 – 29 survey window. Family survey links will be sent directly from Panorama Education to the Guardian 1 email address on file in Skyward during the same window.
Learn more about social emotional learning and HSE Schools Comprehensive Student Success efforts by visiting hseschools.org and clicking on school counseling. If you have questions about the student survey or to opt out, please contact your building principal or Dr. Susan Drumm, HSE's Chief Analytics Officer (sdrumm@hse.k12.in.us). If you don’t receive your unique family survey link via email on March 18, please contact either support+hseschools@panoramaed.com or sdrumm@hse.k12.in.us.
HSE Schools are grateful to our grant partners for providing funding for this survey opportunity. Thank you in advance for your feedback and for all you do to help all 22,000 HSE Students become #HSEFutureReady.

Fall Creek Junior High PTO
For those of you that are moving on to Fall Creek Junior High (FCJH) next year, the PTO is looking for some board members and committee chairs. Serving on the PTO, chairing a committee, and/or volunteering for PTO events is a great way to get to know the staff at FCJH. With seven periods in the day, and lots more staff members than FCI, being involved is a great way to make a bigger school seem small. If you'd like to attend a PTO meeting to get a feel for what goes on at the junior high, our remaining PTO meetings are listed below. Feel free to attend any or all remaining meeting(s). However, you do need to have a current background check on file with HSE Schools to attend.
The FCJH PTO meeting schedule for the remainder of this school year is:
- March 21st at 8:30am
- April 25th at 8:30am
- May 9th at 8:30am
*All meetings are on Thursdays and we meet in the Auditeria.
There are several vacancies on the FCJH PTO Board for the 2019-2020 school year. If you are interested in learning more about the PTO, serving on the PTO Board, or chairing a committee, please email Charron Wright at gcwright91@aol.com.

Attention 6th Grade Parents: CPR Information
Dear 6th Grade Parent/Guardian:
Creating Positive Relationships is a curriculum developed to build character in young people, empowering them to develop healthy relationships, benefitting their communities and society.
The Creating Positive Relationship curriculum will be taught by FCI’s physical education teachers to all 6th grade students during PE rotation prior to spring break. The curriculum focuses on teaching students the basics of puberty and sexually transmitted infections (STI); personal relationships; physical, emotional, social and mental health; love vs. crush; and media/technology’s impact on relationships.
If you have any reservations/concerns about the program, please contact your child’s PE teacher or the school nurse for more information. CPR classes begin Monday, 3/18 for each class's PE rotation. Classes will be complete by Spring Break.
If you DO NOT wish your child to participate in the CPR program, please click here to download the form. Send the signed form back to your child's homeroom teacher.
If you have any questions, please contact the School Nurse Carol Gump, cgump@hse.k12.in.us
ATTENTION ALL 6th GRADE STUDENTS & PARENTS
The FCJH Band, Choir, and Orchestra Programs WANT YOU! You have an exciting opportunity to participate in band, choir, or orchestra next year at FCJH. Participants will learn how to read music and how to play an instrument or develop your abilities as a vocalist. Classes will meet every day at FCJH just like any other academic class. Every student at FCJH receives SOAR time (comparable to our current SLT time), even the students in a performance ensemble!!!!! Students who are not currently in band, choir, or orchestra have the opportunity to join at FCJH.
“Research shows that students who participate in musical ensembles at school have higher attendance rates and test scores. Even more, new studies show that making music with peers as part of the school day can lead to increased levels of empathy and can lead to making friends faster!”
All you need to do is put band, choir, or orchestra on your schedule as an elective! Students who are currently in band or orchestra simply need to write down band or orchestra to continue to participate next year!
Grab your friends and don’t miss out on all of the fun! COME BE IN THE PERFORMING ARTS!!
Students in the FCJH Band, Choir, and Orchestra take a trip to Kings Island at the end of the school year!

Youth Mentoring Initiative
YMI - Youth Mentoring Initiative has been serving the Fishers community, in partnership with HSE schools, since 2008. YMI partners with our schools to come alongside counselors, teachers, and parents by providing another caring adult to support and encourage the success of each student. YMI is a FREE program, as we are a non-profit organization and exist due to donations, grants, and the support of our community.
Our Mentors are adult volunteers that come to mentor once a week, for one hour, during the school day. Mentors meet one-on-one with students and provide them with a caring and consistent presence in their lives; become a reliable friend; a role model; and simply someone they can count on.
Do you have or know a student that could benefit from having a Mentor? Follow these steps to get them enrolled in the program:
- Go to www.ymionline.org
- Click on BE MENTORED
- Click on RECOMMEND A STUDENT
Are you interested in becoming a Mentor? Follow these steps to get yourself enrolled in the program:

Transportation Change / Early Dismissal Notification Process
Follow one of the below steps to notify the school of your child’s change.
Send a note with your child in the morning
Send an email to the office staff and your child’s teacher
- It’s important to include all of the following contacts should you send an email
- Michele Pitts – mpitts@hse.k12.in.us
- Ebony Roberts - eroberts@hse.k12.in.us
- Julie Green – jgreen@hse.k12.in.us
- Susan Peterson – sdpeterson@hse.k12.in.us
- Student’s teacher
Last minute changes during the school day:
- Call the office at 317-915-4220
After school hours:
Call the attendance line at 317-915-4228. Please include the following in your note and/or message:
- child's full name
- homeroom teacher
- time of early dismissal
- nature of dismissal (e.g., doctor appointment, physical therapy, etc.)
- reason for the absence (be specific)
- your full name
- contact telephone # in the event of questions
If an absence is due to a doctor's appointment, remember to send the doctor's excuse note to school for attendance purposes. Medical absences are recorded differently according to our state/district attendance policies.
Do not communicate absence/early dismissal/transportation changes solely to the teacher. This information must go through the office. While you may also notify the teacher, if the teacher is not present at school and information is sent to him/her, the office will not be knowledgeable of the information.
IMPORTANT SAFETY ITEM REMINDERS
- Buzzer protocol - When you ring the buzzer for entry, remember that the office staff will ask you your name, intent, child's name/homeroom to ensure those that enter FCI should enter.
- Photo ID - Whether picking up or dropping off, please have photo ID such as your driver's license ready for identification purposes.
- Door 1 entry - All visitors must enter via door 1 regardless of time of day. Please do not come in the cafeteria door with students before school.
- Bus lot - Do not enter the bus lot prior to bus arrival or while buses are in the lot.
- Drop-off - Please make all attempts possible to have your child exit your vehicle on the side of the curb. Exit the opposite side and walking in between cars is not safe.
Activity dismissal
For school-wide events such as the Hang Out, Falcon Fest, all-school stay-after basketball games, the following pick-up procedures assist in safer, quicker dismissal:
- 5th grade parents to travel north on Olio Road into the front parking lot then south on Olio Road out of the parking lot. Pick-up is in FRONT of the building for 5th grade.
- 6th grade parents to travel south on Olio Road into the bus parking lot then north on Olio Road out of the parking lot. Pick-up is in the bus lot for 6th grade. This is north of the school on the side face HSE High School.
ABOVE ALL, we know your schedules are very busy as well. However, we ask that you NOT park in the parking lot and ask your child to walk across the lot. This is not safe as there are many vehicles in the lot. Please assist us in keep all of our children safe and remain in the pick up line. We will take all possible efforts to move the line quickly and safely. Thank you in advance!! :)
Safe Visitor Badges
Per HSE Policy, visitors must have their Safe Visitor Badge scanned to check-in to the building. Please download the SafeVisitor App (available for iPhones and in Google Play for all other phones) or have your badge available when you come into the school. Looking up names can lead to the wrong person being signed in.
Upon leaving, please give your printed badge to the office staff for quick check-out.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Vicki Foutty at 317-594-4100.
Text-A-Tip
Text-A-Tip is a program that allows students, parents or others to anonymously send a text or email message to our school resource officers and school administrators about concerns they may have for their own safety or the safety of others. Text-A-Tip will be actively monitored during the school day. It should not be used for emergencies—Call 911 if you need immediate help. For more information on how to submit a tip please use the link below.
