A Message from Mrs. Franciosa...

Hello Evergreen Families,

The Evergreen students have been showing their 3R --Ready, Responsible, and Respectful--behaviors each day. They've earned many 3R tickets for these great choices. Last week we had our first Bingo winners and are already filling up our Bingo board with the names of our new 3R ticket recipients!

Looking forward to our Trunk-or-Treat event next Friday. Hope to see everyone there! Please note the the Trunk-or-Treat time is from 6pm-8pm. There was a mistake in last week's newsletter about the times. I apologize for any confusion.

"k" is for kindergarten

Our Kindergarten superstars have been working hard and doing a great job! We have had a busy, fun-filled month. We continue to learn our rules and routines at school. The students are practicing their pencil grip, letter formation and writing their names. Please have your child practice writing their name at home with the first letter uppercase and the rest lowercase.

The students have also been working hard on their letter identification and letter sounds. We

enjoy singing and dancing to our letter songs and using our hand motions to help us remember our letters and sounds. We have also been listening for the beginning sounds of words, practicing rhyming words and counting syllables.

Fire House Visit

Last week the students had fun learning about fire safety. We completed many fire safety

activities such as fire truck color word practice, firehouse number formation, a fire safety sight word mini-book, labeling a firefighter's gear and fire truck dice roll. On Thursday, the firefighters visited our school. The students heard a presentation from the firefighters. They brought us special hats and coloring books. The students loved receiving their fire hats and their special fire safety coloring books. It was a super fun day!!

It’s Pumpkin Time

The students have had fun learning about fall and pumpkins. We have been working on fall

vocabulary and fall-themed comprehension and writing. We have learned about the life-cycle of a pumpkin and the parts of a pumpkin using our labeling skills. We have had so much fun working on our skills with activities that have a pumpkin theme. We have practiced our color words, shapes, patterns, sequencing, sight words and number skills.

The students read the book Spookley the Square Pumpkin. This book's themes are about being kind to others and being a good friend. It teaches us that we are all unique and special just the way we are. The students did an amazing job making their own Spookley pumpkins.

On Monday, October 31st the students will enjoy fall-themed activities at school such as roll a

pumpkin and making a beaded pumpkin. We will enjoy a special snack and fall treat bag. Students will also get a chance to take home a mini pumpkin from our “Evergreen Pumpkin Patch.” Kindergarten wants to thank Home and School for purchasing the pumpkins for this event. It will be a day of fall pumpkin fun!!

Health & Wellness

Can you believe it’s the end of October already? We are settling in nicely here at Evergreen, and the students are working hard to be successful both academically, socially, and emotionally.

Our “trait of the month" for September was Friendship and October’s theme is Respect. As we explore various personal traits throughout the year, our Health and Wellness lessons are designed to support and expand upon those ideas.

Our first Health and Wellness unit was “Skills for Learning”. At each level, students learned about and practiced these skills. They include: Focusing Attention, Listening with Attention, Using Self-Talk, and Being Assertive.

From there, we moved into “Learning About Feelings”. As students become more aware of their feelings and can recognize strong feelings in their bodies, they are better able to self-regulate and calm down if necessary to avoid saying or doing something they might regret. Moving forward, our lessons will continue to focus on emotion management and coping skills followed by a unit on nutrition and healthy habits.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy fall season!
