Your One-Stop Online Learning Site is Gearing Up for Summer School!
Not Sure About a Virtual Summer School Program? Consider the Benefits:
Save Money
Take some time to look at the costs for your summer school program. If you consider the money being spent for teachers, administrators, office staff, building/energy costs, curriculum (if using content from a third party), etc. it may be less expensive to offer virtual courses.
Save Time
Preparing for traditional summer school also consumes a great deal of time. Considerable time is spent training teachers, creating content, and attending numerous planning meetings (not that we don't all love meetings!). Most of the preparations take place in the months leading up to the end of the school year, which is a busy time for everyone. Instead, consider using GenNET's teacher-led courses for your virtual program ... a great option because no training, content creation, or planning is required.
Offer More Options to More Students
A traditional summer school program generally offers credit recovery courses, and is limited to specific options and number of students. A virtual program can offer additional courses (electives, advanced placement, general core courses, etc.) to an unlimited number of students (particularly if you offer the option for parents to pay for courses).
A Win-Win Solution
Whether your district provides summer school courses at no cost to parents or charges a fee, the broad range of options and reduced pricing for summer (credit recovery courses as low as $120) are an attractive alternative. If a district charges parents for summer school courses, they can collect the course fees when students sign up for the class(es). School staff can enroll students at any time, and districts will receive an invoice for their enrollments in August.
Note: A mentor is not required for most summer school courses, but we do highly recommend one to enhance student success.

How About a Hybrid Approach?
What can a student do if your district offers a course they want to take during the school year, but it won't fit into their schedule? Offer Physical Education or other required courses during the summer! Parents especially appreciate the option of students taking some general courses over summer so they can take advantage of more advanced courses in their schools.
