Principal’s Message

Dear Parents and Guardians:

The first six weeks of school are a critical time to form relationships, establish routines, and most importantly, create a safe atmosphere for teaching and learning. Students have been incredibly impressive managing their schedules as we embrace a new approach to the Unified Arts class rotation, particularly in the fourth and fifth grade. This sets the stage for next year when these students will advance to the fifth and sixth grade and adopt a similar schedule. As the school year progresses, we will consistently review our practices and procedures to ensure that the daily operations of the school day run efficiently. We are well on our way!

This past Tuesday, two of our students represented WCS at the Windham School Board Meeting. Jack, a third grader, started the meeting by leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance while Diana, a fifth grader, shared a story about using grit to become a member of the WCS Student Council. On Tuesday, October 16, one of our fifth grade students, Hersheal, will lead another WSB meeting with the Pledge of Allegience. Each month, a different school in the district is highlighted at WSB meetings, and October was our month to shine as a school.

As September came to a close, we reflected upon our "Choose to Be Nice" monthly theme, which was Respect. Today, we recognized several students for going above and beyond in the area of respect and are so proud to see them contribute to the warmth of our school community. We would like to thank all of our families for your support in this initiative that is rooted in SEL (Social Emotional Learning).

Teaching is hard work, and I wanted to acknowledge the tremendous staff of educators here at WCS who are innovative, hard-working, and most importantly, highly motivated. We are off to a great start and look forward to working together this year to support the academic, social, and emotional learning of your child.

Enjoy your weekend!

Sincerely,

Rory O'Connor

Professional Learning with Dr. Chen

During today's early release, teachers worked with Dr. Andrew Chen to target mathematics instruction. Dr. Chen is a former principal research scientist at MIT and currently works with teachers to increase their capacity to be excellent mathematics and science instructors. We very much enjoyed this professional learning experience and will partner with him for continued training.

A Helping Hand from Miss Ryan's Class

We are thinking of our friends across the border who have been dealing with the terrible situation regarding natural gas. Miss Ryan, an Andover, MA native and one of our fourth grade teachers here at WCS, recently organized a donation drive with her students to support the Lazarus House to support those affected by this recent event. Thank you to our students and families for their support!
