A Note from Your Principal
It has been a busy week at McKelvey! We've managed a book refresh, curbside library check-out, and an important parent survey all while our incredible students and teachers completed another week of high quality distance learning. I want to thank our families for your support and flexibility in shifting schedules and multiple trips up to McKelvey as we prepared books and materials for the second half of 1st quarter. You have been amazing and it's always great to see people!!! If only for a few minutes at the curb. :)
We are anxiously awaiting news next week in the hopes of returning to school very soon. This building was meant to be filled with children. The learning preference data has been bittersweet. With our overall school community's preference to remain virtual, the long awaited opening of McKelvey Primary will likely be put on hold until the 2021-22 school year. However, we will continue to seek silver linings and trust that lessons learned through this pandemic will increase our patience, resilience, flexibility, and gratitude.
On a positive note, we are excited to be connecting with so many families this week during parent-teacher conferences. It's wonderful to hear about the progress already being made by our outstanding students! Technology, reading, math...or all of the above! Please enjoy a terrific weekend - get away from the screens and into the sun. Take good care!
Greetings, McKelvey families! This week we would like to share some ways that you can positively reinforce your child at home. When you notice your student working hard, staying on task, or following the Dragon’s Code, reinforce these behaviors to increase the likelihood that they will continue! As always, please reach out to your grade level counselor if we can help in any way.

McKelvey School Counselors
Hello again from your nurses. Hopefully everyone is able to get outdoors (socially distanced) for some fresh air and exercise as the weather is becoming a bit cooler and less humid.
This is also a time for children who plan to return to in person learning to get some practice wearing face masks as they will be required when returning to in person school.
Start with just a few minutes a few times a day and gradually increase the amount of time.
Be sure to encourage your child to let you know any concerns they have and work with them to make it a less stressful experience. Please contact us if we can help in any way.
For those returning to in person learning who have children who may need to take medication at school - either on a daily basis or as needed. We are attaching the form that is required to be filled out by parent/guardian and the prescribing doctor. Please be sure the medication is in its original container with labels - both over the counter and prescription. The form below must be completed for both over the counter AND prescription medication.
