March 2016 Minutes for Moms

Message from the President

"Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment, until it becomes a memory." - Dr. Seuss

In honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday this month, I was searching for quotes and came across this one. It is one I actually have never seen before and it doesn't have the usual rhythm and rhyme that Dr. Seuss is so well known for. I like this quote because there is so much truth to it. There are so many times throughout life that one moment, even if it was small, had such a lasting impact or perhaps even changed the course of our lives, even if we didn't realize it at the time. We may not have thought that certain moments were important at the time- we may have even taken certain times for granted until we reflected back on them only to realize how special they actually were. Since having kids I have tried to slow down and appreciate things more and even savor certain times. Everyone always tells me that kids grow up so fast, that time passes quickly and before you know it they are grown up. They tell me to enjoy even the little things. So I try to take this advice that I have heard from so many, and often times find myself watching them while they play or say something adorable and think about this advice, soaking in the moments. I try to savor all the moments - both big and small with my children: a trip to the zoo, playing tea party in a princess costume, carrying a favorite toy firetruck everywhere and finding seashells on the beach together. So enjoy the moments and make great memories. "Today is gone. Today was fun. Tomorrow is another one. Every day, from here to there, funny things are everywhere." - Dr. Seuss

We are in search of hosts for the April and May Members Social. If you would like to host one of these events at your house, you would pick the day and time that works for you. You would just provide a few peanut-free snacks and drinks and everyone attending the event would also bring a snack to share. Note from a Soldier

Before the holidays several members of the club made holiday cards to send to the soldiers overseas to put a smile on their face and thank them for their service. These cards were to go along with care packages that the non-profit organization, Military Mom in Action, was sending to the soldiers. I received a letter from the organization thanking us and in the letter were notes that soldiers have sent to her as well. Here is one:

"Thank you so much for your care package! We really appreciate everything you have been doing to support us during our time away from home. It's really great to know someone at home is thinking of us. We love and enjoy your goodies and the thoughtful cards you've enclosed. Bless your heart and thank you once again for all you do." (from a SGT in the Army)

Did You Know....

Want to know some more random facts? Well, here you go….

During the first two years of a baby’s life, new parents will miss six months of sleep on average.

There are 336 dimples on a regulation golf ball.

Only one McDonald’s in the world has turquoise arches. Government officials in Sedona, Arizona, thought the yellow would look bad with the natural red rock of the city.

The first CD pressed in the US was Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the USA.”

Snow appears white because snow is a bunch of individual ice crystals arranged together. When light hits snow, it bounces all around the ice crystals and the “color” of all the frequencies in the visible spectrum combined in equal measure is white. While white is the color we see in snow, individual ice crystals are actually translucent.

The average person falls asleep in seven minutes.

A hummingbird weighs less than a penny.
