Brrrrrrr ... with temperatures hovering in the low 30s more often than not, the Brickie boys and girls track & field teams have stayed inside competing for qualifying spots in the FINALS of the Hoosier State Relays at the end of March. Senior vaulter Cody Johnston was in New York for the Nike Indoor Nationals over the weekend while the rest of the gang headed back to Purdue for some Thursday night fun!
Johnston was the BRIGHTEST STAR SHINING at the Nike Indoor National meet held at The Armory in New York City! In 2022, Cody placed 6th overall at this very same meet. A year later ... he is a NATIONAL CHAMPION after clearing a NEW PERSONAL BEST HEIGHT of 17'1"!! UNBELIEVABLE!! Next weekend, he will be traveling to Virginia Beach for the Adidas Indoor Nationals before heading to Indiana University on March 25th to defend his Hoosier State Relays title. WOW - WHAT AN ACCOMPLISHMENT!! The BRICKIE NATION is SO PROUD OF YOU CODY!!! DON'T STOP NOW!!!

On Thursday night at Purdue University's Lambert Fieldhouse, RELAY was the name of the game and singer Jackson Browne would be disappointed because our kids were definitely NOT "Runnin' On Empty" :). In fact, the Brickies were FULL SPEED AHEAD!!
For the Lady Bricks, senior Daeges Morgan once again cleared 5'0" in the high jump to finish 3rd overall! She is currently ranked #20 in Indiana! The girls Distance Medley Relay (1200-400-800-1600) composed of juniors Ella Hornak & Cailey Weber and freshmen Cassie Cohen & Joanna Cantu ran a GREAT race to also finish 3rd ... their time ranks 36th in Indiana.
Weber also claimed a top 10 finish in the 55m hurdles, which puts her 37th in Indiana with two weeks until the HSR Finals in Bloomington!
On the boys side, senior Gavin Miller was BRILLIANT in placing 2nd in BOTH the long jump and high jump events!! His leap of 20'11.75" places him 13th in Indiana so far!! WOW!!
Overall, the Brickies came to compete and took advantage of another opportunity to measure their progress so far!!

The Hoosier State Relay Finals will be held at Indiana University on March 25th! The TOP 24 performers in each qualifier advance to compete in the Finals. As of right now, Hobart looks to be WELL REPRESENTED in Bloomington in two weeks! As for the rest of our Band o' Brickies, they have a few weeks now to build towards the outdoor season, which begins April 6th right here at The Brickyard. LET'S GOOOOOOOO!!!
