GIVE BACK ~ The Annual Fund is Compass Charter Schools’ first giving priority and the fundraiser in which we invite every family to participate.
Dollars raised through the Annual Fund benefit every scholar and provide critical operating funds to help bridge the gap between what the state provides and what it really costs to deliver the outstanding education we want for our children. We invite our community to support Compass through our Annual Fund!

K-8 SCHOOL NEWS
ISTATION TESTING ~ All scholars should have taken both their math and reading diagnostic tests. These tests are imperative to scholars’ success. Our teachers will learn from this data and see the skills that need development to help scholars build upon those skills. If you have not, please contact your teacher for help logging in or getting started.
K-5 HALLOWEEN VIRTUAL COSTUME PARADE ~ Save the date! The Elementary School will host its annual Virtual Costume Parade on Wednesday, October 31 at 10 am! Keep an eye out for an invitation from your teacher to join the fun. In the meantime, let the Halloween fun begin by helping your scholar record a short (90 seconds or less) video of them showing off their amazing Halloween costume using our CCS Halloween Fun FlipGrid! Don’t forget to log into the FlipGrid using your scholar’s Compass email address. For questions, please contact your teacher.
LATIN AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH ~ Our Middle School scholars are invited to join their teachers and celebrate Latin American Heritage Month by sharing their favorite Latin American dish using our Latin American Heritage Month FlipGrid. Be sure to log into the FlipGrid using your scholar’s Compass email address to join the fun!
MISS. D’S SUCCESS TIP OF THE WEEK ~ Set your scholar up for success by ensuring they’re working on their academics Monday-Friday each week throughout the school year. Did you know, missing 10 percent or more of school for any reason including excused and unexcused absences, or just two or three days a month – is a proven predictor of academic trouble and dropout rates? That’s why it’s so important for your scholar to be working in their courses daily!
ONLINE HIGH SCHOOL NEWS
AVID ~ October offers a good point to reflect on progress thus far and review some important academic practices. This month we will focus on reading to learn strategies that scholars can implement. One such strategy is Marking the Text, which asks scholars to actively engage in their reading assignments by numbering paragraphs, underlining key points, and circling unknown terms. The strategy helps improve scholars’ reading efforts, which creates better retention, and easier review.
PARTICIPATION GRADE ~ Scholars earn a participation grade in each of their courses. Scholars who attend their learning labs, communicate regularly with their teachers, and stay on pace tend to earn higher grades on average. Those are the three ways that scholars can earn credit for participation and ultimately increase their overall grade for each course. Scholars are strongly encouraged to participate by using these three methods to help them have a successful academic year.
