This month we are excited to share the love we have for each other. Students will have the opportunity to create Valentine's Day boxes and bring Valentines cards to share with their friends. February is Black History Month. Through children's books and classroom activities our children will learn about the contributions of Black Americans and their essential roles in American History. The Child Development Center is committed to infusing diversity into our curriculum and lesson plans year-round. A key pinnacle of our approach to early childhood education is employing an antibias approach to curriculum. We strive to create a learning environment where everyone is valued and welcomed.

Dental Health Month is a month-long event held every year that encourages children to learn about good oral health. Sponsored by the American Dental Association (ADA), National Children’s Dental Health Month seeks to teach children good practices about caring for their teeth. Through learning resources and activities, Dental Health Month empowers children to protect those pearly whites and practice effective dental hygiene techniques.

Teaching children about dental hygiene at a young age is vital to their health in later life. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) estimates that at least 20% of children aged 5 through 11 have one decaying tooth that has gone untreated. This study also found that children from lower-income families are twice as likely to have cavities as other children. Luckily, evidence from the World Bank demonstrates how teaching good hygiene practices are the most cost-effective way to reduce cavities and oral disease. Teaching children about dental health at a young age will empower them to lead healthy lifestyles.
