5. Make it S.M.A.R.T.! Map It Out!
Ok... so after my last post about S.M.A.R.T Goals I had to track down the actual statistics and wanted to share an additional resource...
Some statistics say that more than 40% of Americans make New Year’s resolutions each year. Research from the University of Scranton shows that of those Americans only 8% actually achieve their goals. Having goals in life is important, and it is important that we model this for our children. Just saying we want to achieve something, however is not enough. We need to be S.M.A.R.T. about it!
Check out the included S.M.A.R.T Goal Map (Link here, PDF Below) to see if we can help our children set goals of their own for the New Year. These goals could be academic, behavioral, or service related. The important thing is that they are S.M.A.R.T.!
For reflection:
- How do you use goal setting with students in your classroom community?
- How might you use S.M.A.R.T. Goals/the Goal Map with your students
- How might you use S.M.A.R.T. Goals/the Goal Map for yourself whether professionally or personally?
