Mrs. Shaffer

Burgettstown Middle High School, Assistant Principal

About Me

Hello! My name is Mrs. Shaffer, and I am the Assistant Principal at Burgettstown Middle High School! This year, I will be beginning my 8th year in education, my 6th year at Burgettstown. You may also know me as Ms. Frantz, as I recently got married in August 2020!

I began my teaching career at Burgettstown as a learning support teacher in 2017 and have been fortunate enough to be able to continue my leadership journey in the District by recently earning my Principalship Certification at PSU, and moving into the Assistant Principal role.

I am a firm believer that all students can be successful, and I am thoroughly looking forward to another year working with our students, teachers, and community to make this year one for the books!

Education & Background

Big picture
I graduated from Clarion University, now known as PennWest University - Clarion Campus, in 2014 with my Bachelors of Science degree in Middle-Level Education, specializing in math. I continued at Clarion for a 5th year, earning my Master of Science degree in Special Education K-8.

After graduating with my Master's degree in May 2015, I gained employment at Hampton Township School District as a special education paraprofessional, working with students of all disability types in grades K-5. Though challenging, I am grateful to have had this opportunity, as I gained a wealth of knowledge regarding working with challenging students, communicating with parents, and many other attributes.

Additionally, I was able to acquire two (2) long-term substitute positions in two (2) different special education classrooms, which allowed me to gain the experience I needed to truly develop into a high-quality teacher.

In 2017, I was thrilled to be offered my first official teaching contract at, yours truly, Burgettstown Area School District. For four (4) years, I served as a middle school learning support teacher, servicing students in grades 6-8. This opportunity allowed me to develop and grow into a Blue Devil; as I made this school my home, and my colleagues and students my family.

Throughout my time as a teacher, I served as a new teacher mentor, 6th-Grade Team Lead, Friends of Rachel Club Advisor, National Junior Honor Society Advisor, Middle School Cross Country Coach, and High School Musical Director!

In August 2020, I decided that I wanted to inspire more change than I was able to as a teacher, and made the decision to pursue a career in school leadership; therefore, I began my leadership journey at PennState University by enrolling in their Principalship Program. Throughout the course of this leadership journey, I gained the opportunity to become the middle high school's Dean of Students during the 2021-2022 school year.

In May 2022, I concluded my coursework and passed my licensure exam, furthermore earning my certification; and on August 8, 2022, I was officially appointed to the role of Assistant Principal at Burgettstown Middle High School.

Currently, I am the Peer Jury Faculty Advisor, S.P.E.A.R.S. Parent Group Leader, as well as Principal Advisory Club Advisor!

I currently hold Instructional Level II certifications in Grades PK-4, Grades 4-8 (4th-6th all subjects; 7th-8th Math), and Special Education K-8. Additionally, I earned my Principal's K-12 Certification in May 2022.
