Letter from the Principal
October 21, 2021
Greetings Wildcat Families!
We are excited for the pleasant fall weather and look forward to seeing you at our face-to-face Woodland event, the Annual Fall Festival, sponsored by Friends of Woodland PTO, on Friday, October 22, 2021, from 5:00pm – 8:00pm. This is an outdoor event. PLEASE purchase your tickets in advance at www.friendsofwoodland.com/fallfest.
There will be carnival games, temporary tattoos, photo booth, inflatable obstacle course, dance party, Trunk-or-Treat, funnel cakes, Kona Ice, pizza, popcorn, and plenty of candy!
And, if that's not enough fun, the night will end with a movie under the stars on the upper field (movie starts at 7pm), so bring your blankets, chairs, and a flashlight.
There is always an opportunity for you to help! If you are interested in volunteering, you may do so by clicking the link below and signing up to help at one of the stations.

iREADY DIAGNOSTIC ASSESSMENT
i-Ready is one of our diagnostic assessment tools we utilize to monitor students’ learning gains or deficits. It is an online program for reading and/or mathematics that help your student’s teacher(s) determine students’ needs, personalize their learning, and monitor progress throughout the school year. We are working hard on having students grades K- 5, practice and engage on iReady, a minimum of 45 minutes a week! This can be during school or at-home. Please encourage your child to spend some time working on i-Ready to sharpen his/her reading and/or math skills.
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 2, ELECTION DAY
Tuesday, November 2, 2021, is an election day. Woodland Elementary School is a Fulton County Polling location. While this is a local election, NOT a statewide election, and LOW turnout is to be expected, it does not meet Fulton County Schools criteria to be a remote learning day. Therefore, regular school attendance is expected for all students and staff. Our local school team has met with district and Fulton County Board of Elections personnel to ensure we manage and maintain the safety of all students and staff. Students and staff will not have interactions or access to voters.
Please be mindful of planning your drop-off and pick-up on this day, as you may encounter some additional traffic in and around our campus.
ESPLOST AND IMPACT ON SCHOOLS
Over the next few weeks you will be hearing and seeing more information about Fulton
County Schools’ next Capital Plan and the projects that will improve our school; for example: energy-efficient LED lighting, media center renovation, and I.T. continuity improvements.
On November 2, 2021, Fulton citizens will vote on whether to continue ESPLOST as the funding source for these projects. For those unfamiliar, ESPLOST is the one-penny education sales tax that has funded new school construction, additions and renovations, technology innovations, transportation upgrades and safety improvements in our school system.
ESPLOST has been our district’s preferred funding source for capital improvement projects for many years. Fulton County Schools has created a special webpage with information about Capital Plan 2027 and ESPLOST at www.fultonschools.org/ESPLOST. We encourage you to visit that page to view information about our school’s projects as well as general information about districtwide improvements.
COVID UPDATES
Please continue to check our Fulton County website for updated information on district protocols and practices. The district’s webpage link is as follows, https://www.fultonschools.org/coronavirus. The webpage also has information from the Department of Public Health, the weekly epidemiology report, the mitigation matrix, and a wealth of additional information.
If you need to report a positive COVID case for your student please utilize the Fulton County Schools portal at the following link, COVID-19 Reporting Portal . Once cases are recorded and investigated by the district’s student health services, the local school then receives information to provide to our classes and parents, as needed. Thank you for partnering with us to help keep our school community safe!

Book Character Day!
Book Character Day!
Friday, October 29th
While we know things may look a little different this year, we would love to continue the Woodland tradition of hosting our annual Book Character Day event. Below you will see the information for your child can participate.
Here are the guidelines for ALL students:
· Please note that this is NOT a Halloween costume event. In order to dress up, students must have a copy of the book that their character is representing.
· Dressing up is optional, NOT required. Anyone not dressing up, should wear their normal school uniform and must also wear the appropriate face covering.
· If your child is going to dress in a costume, all costumes must meet dress code requirements regarding appropriateness, length of skirts, etc., and your child MUST continue to wear the required face covering. Costumes should not be scary. Students may not wear costume masks (only the required face covering) or bring any type of play weapon (gun, sword, wand, etc.).
· Our Pre-K and Kindergarten students will get to engage in a Parade to showcase their Book Characters to the students at WES. This event will take place during the school day and is for students and staff only. However, we will take plenty of pictures to capture the event! We will utilize the hashtag #wherethewildcatsare on Twitter!
· Please keep a look out on Dojo for any additional information regarding Book Character Day from your child’s teacher. *** There should be no candy, treats, etc. brought in to share with your class on this day. ***
We look forward to seeing your child in his/her book character costume!
