I Was Here
Playlist Inspired by the novel by Gayle Forman
Overview of the Playlist
This playlist is inspired by the novel "I was here", written by Gayle Foreman. The following songs were selected based on the modern, new age theme of this book.
I tried to select songs that compliment that story line of this book. The story line consists of a young girl, Cody, and her journey of trying to find out the underlying reason behind her friends suicide.
Song 1 : "True friend" by Hannah Montana
The first song I chose for this book is "True friend" by Hannah Montana, I chose this song because it very accurately explains the opening of the book. In the introduction you meet two teenage girls, Meg and Cody, who are and have been best friends for a long time. Very early in you learn that they are kind of each others only best friends which is described perfectly by this song.
Song 2 : "Im still breathing" by Katy Perry
The next song on the list is "Im still breathing" by Katy Perry. Early on in the book Meg, Cody's best friend, commits suicide. The reason this song flows nicely with this event in the book is because Cody, even though she is extremely hurt and doesn't know what to do with her life, she's still breathing and continuing on with her life.
Song 3. "I knew you were trouble" by Taylor Swift
The third song on the playlist is "I knew you were trouble" by Taylor Swift. This song is on the list because in the book while Cody is trying to figure out why Meg committed suicide she meets a boy named Ben. When she meets Ben he reveals that him and Meg had history together before she had passed away. Right when Cody meets Ben she knows Ben is trouble and that she shouldn't get involved with him but like any other girl, she does.
Song 4. "We found Love" by RIhanna
Following that song i have "We found love" by Rihanna. As Cody spends more and more time with Ben there begins to be some tension and feelings developing between them which leads me into why I chose this song. Of course they begin to fall in love no matter how badly they don't want to.
Song 5. "Safe and sound" by Capital Cities
The last song on my playlist is "Safe and sound" by Capital Cities. I chose this song because at the ending of the book after Cody realizes how and why her best friend did what she did and that it is okay that her and Ben are in love. She is content with her life now.
