Challenge Update

Now that our first unit of 2015-2016 has come to a close, I just wanted to give you a quick update about what we've been up to in Challenge!

Also, we're recruiting appraisers for the DI Tournament in February. There's more information below and I can help if you have any questions about it. For the first time, Rylander is sending 5 teams to the tournament!

Geological Forces

Learning Goal
  • Students will analyze the causes of historical and current geological forces and their impact on society and the environment.

Understandings

  • The surface of the earth is constantly changing.
  • The movement of earth's tectonic plates causes geological events.

Essential Questions

  • Why does the earth change over time?
  • How do geological forces impact people and places?

Destination Imagination

DI Appraiser Training

Destination Imagination encourages teams of learners to solve challenges using creative and critical thinking skills while incorporating science, technology, engineering, mathematics, the arts, and service learning. Teams will showcase their solutions in highly creative skits at the Gulf Coast Regional Tournament on February 27, 2016. Appraisers needed from Katy ISD!! For more information, view the flyer, and ask Ms. Clements if you have any questions. I volunteered as an appraiser last year and it was so fun!

"Gifted children are different. Not better, not always smarter, and not perfect. Just different."

What Parents Want Teachers to Know

Gifted Children: What Parents Want Teachers to Know is a wonderful article providing insight about how gifted children can be misunderstood and miseducated.

The presentation was created using original quotes from parents of gifted children upon answering the question, "If you could tell someone - a teacher, neighbor, or friend - just one sentence, one idea about gifted children and that one idea was going to stick with them, what would you tell them?"
