A Principal's Perspective
As you know, I recently attended the annual Raise Your Hand Texas Symposium. The first night Dan Rather interviewed a panel of educators. Stormy Hickman, Personnel Director for CSISD and former assistant principal at GP, blogged her thoughts about that first night. I want to share a snippet of her blog.
"First, let's start calling ourselves proud products of public education in Texas. (Shout out to Rice Elementary and Middle Schools and Blooming Grove High School!) The narrative around public schools isn't always positive - but look around you at all the successful, world-changing people who are products of those schools and OWN IT. #proudpublicschoolkid
Second, the aspiring teacher on the panel was asked about the narrative that public schools have so many tough kids, even hopeless students. She didn't miss a beat and said, "I don't believe there is such a thing as a hopeless student." #hireher The superintendent followed up with "Schools are in the business of providing hope." Teachers! You are the front lines of that hope, and if no one has told you today hear it now - you are changing the world by bringing hope to every single kid you see. What an amazing gift you give the world!'
Third, Dan Rather is 88 years old. What he remembers the most about his public school education is the encouragement he got. My favorite quote of the night: "Teach a child it can be done." My added thought - go thank all of the people who taught you that."
I hope that you know that YOU, each member of the GP staff, are indeed successful, world-changing people for our students and their families. World changers deserve a restful, fun spring break! Well earned and much needed! Enjoy your time with friends and family!

I killed two roaches. I read about pinworms. The hamster is loose, but we found him. AND completed a Tornado drill! (As she was spotted teaching her small group under the table in the dark!)
Jennie has been doing such a good job she earned an opportunity to use the claw machine when she stopped by my room. I would call this look "DETERMINATION" :) From Danielle Galow See picture below.
