From the Principal's Desk
February 8, 2021
Greetings FWAFA Family,
We've had 350 respondents on our Intent to Return for the 21-22 school year form so far. Please take a few moments to let us know your intentions about enrolling your student for next year. We just need one form per student by Friday, February 19.
I also want to give a huge SHOUT OUT to everyone for their attention to complying with dress code. The counselors, Mr. Mendez, and I made classroom visits last week to check on our progress, and I'm happy to report that we are LOOKIN' GOOD! Keep up the great work! It makes me beam with pride to see our students working hard and doing all that they can to become the very best version of themselves. It is inspiring!
Stay tuned for news about APEX Fun Run and Color Battle (which sounds like is transforming to become a dance/karaoke party - FWAFA style) coming in a separate Jupiter Ed email. We are making some adjustments due to impending inclement weather on Thursday.
Show Your Love and Like - Buy a Valogram!
The season of love, candy, and red and pink things is upon us! The Sophomore class is offering you a couple of ways to enjoy the season:
1. From February 1st-February 9th, ALL students AND their adult-type humans can purchase Valograms ONLINE at www.artsacademics.org/valogram
2. In-person students can participate in our Valentine’s Dress Day on Tuesday, February 16th. Just bring $5 with you when you come to school Tuesday morning. Sophomores will meet you at the door to give you your sticker of participation. Remember that your Valentine’s attire must cover everything your uniform would.
Attention 3rd-6th Graders:
First off, THANK YOU so much for your incredible support of this year’s APEX Fun Run as our major PTSO Spring Fundraiser. We’re nowhere near done yet, but so far the support and love from our families across the world has been awesome, and we are hoping for an amazing finish over these next three days. The students have been on a two-week journey with the Apex team, learning to be MIGHTY leaders. Ask them about the daily character lesson bracelets they’ve received so far.
Our Fun Run is/was scheduled for Thursday outdoors. As I am sure you all know by now, we are about to experience a pretty extreme drop in temperatures and having an outdoor event is not going to be possible Thursday. Rather than trying to reschedule to a later date, we have decided to switch the entire 3rd – 6th Grades over to the APEX REMIX event. Our at-home learners unable to come to the school Thursday were already doing REMIX, but now all students will get to enjoy this awesome and unique fitness dance party. The APEX team will be outfitting our auditorium with their first class “GLOW EQUIPMENT” to transform it into an epic dance and workout party. Instead of running laps around the Apex Raceway, students will have a blast learning and performing 36 “fitness moves”.
We will record 26-36 fitness moves for each student, much like the laps in fun run. We record a maximum of 36 fitness moves so that donors can plan their pledge, and we record a minimum of 26 fitness moves so that donors can honor their pledge, help our school and the student receives credit for the donation. Any student that is absent that day will receive the average 30 fitness moves so that donors can still honor pledges to the school.
Due to the complexity of gathering results for at-home learners, we will record the standard fitness moves of 36 for all at-home learners (most all students always complete all 36 fitness moves). If for any reason your student performs less than 36 and you would like that result adjusted, please notify firstname.lastname@example.org no later than Thursday at 6:00PM. Remember the minimum recorded is 26 for any student.
Here is a SNEEK PEEK TRAILER for APEX Remix, so you can get a glimpse of into the fun we’ll have Thursday! https://vimeo.com/475520771
Lastly, we still have three days left in our program. Please continue to share your student’s Apex Pledge page with Friends and Family, or if you have not yet engaged, please consider helping our great school. If you need your student’s ACCESS CODE, please send and email to our Team leader at email@example.com and Bookworm Beez will be happy to get that for you.
7th-12th Graders: APEX Color Battle Becomes Karaoke Battle and Dance Party
Thursday afternoon February 11, before school lets out, students that raise at least $30 for our fundraiser will get to SAFELY gather and:
· Have Free Dress Day
· Listen to great music
· Participate and/or watch our Karaoke Battle where someone will be crowned the 2021 FWAFA Karaoke King/Queen
· We will have several great raffle prizes including
o Passes to Epic Waters
o Gift certificate to Boardroom Salon for men or Dr Bar
· We will also have food and drink available (PIZZA!)
Remember 10% of funds raised go directly back to that student’s grade’s Project Celebration Fund for senior year! The event will happen before the end of the school day and will not interfere with after-school activities.
We Love Our Charter School!
Advocating for the Charter School we love has never been more important! As pandemic places strain on the global economy and newly-elected officials in Austin look for ways to get more bang from the education buck, we as Charter School community members must make our voices heard.
Did you know that, on average, Charter Schools receive $700 LESS per student in funding from the state as compared to students enrolled at an ISD?
More importantly, did you know that there are State Legislators who are spreading misinformation about Charter School funding, stating that we are taking money out of the pockets of our ISD neighbors?
The State Legislative Session returns on February 9th, and we need to make sure our lawmakers know how much We Love Our Charter School!
Please consider joining the Texas Public Charter Schools Association for a Parent Advocacy Rally via Zoom on Wednesday, February 10th from 5:30-6:30 to learn more about how you can stand up for the education your child needs and deserves. RSVP at https://bit.ly/2McyUY6
