Día de Los Muertos
The Spanish Immersion Program and the Spanish classes will be completing a PBL on “Día de Los Muertos” or All Souls’ Day. “Día de Los Muertos” is a holiday in which families celebrate and remember the lives of those who have passed on. The origin of the holiday started in Mexico and has since expanded and reached many Spanish-speaking countries. During this holiday, it is customary for families to clean and decorate the grave of the deceased with chrysanthemums, marigolds, and afterward, have a picnic with family and community members to share stories of the deceased.
Another special tradition included in Día de Los Muertos is the construction of displays dedicated to the deceased. Sra. Silas and her classes celebrated Día de Los Muertos via a PBL and created a display in her classroom. The display included photographs, candles, flowers, trinkets, etc. Students in her Spanish classes
