Keeping Sugar Creek Students Healthy and Safe!
Let’s Swing Into a Healthy School Year!
Tips to staying healthy:
1. Wash your hands or use hand sanitizer
2. Cover your sneeze and cough into your elbow
3. Get a flu vaccination
4. Don’t share foods and drinks
5. Try avoiding getting close to those who are sick
Please stay home if:
1. Temperature higher than 100.0 and until fever-free for 24 hours without medication.
2. Throwing up or having diarrhea and have gone 24 hours without vomiting or diarrhea.
3. Continuous coughing.
Remember ALL medications MUST be brought to the clinic by an ADULT.
Medication is anything that is used for treatment of a condition. This includes:
· Cough drops and cough suckers
· Inhalers
· Eye drops
Is your student drinking enough water?
Children should be drinking 8-10 glasses of water each day! Check these symptoms of possible dehydration to see if your child is drinking enough water:
· Dizziness
· Headaches
· Tiredness and decreased energy
· Constipation
· Feeling of “heart beating out of their chest”
Helpful tips for preventing head lice:
1. Don’t share hats or jackets.
2. Avoid sharing hairbrushes, combs, hair clips, etc.
3. Be careful when taking “selfies” as this often involves pressing heads together.
4. Check your student periodically, especially if you see them scratching their head frequently.
5. When returning home from school- place jackets/coats and hats in dryer for at least 20 minutes.
6. When returning from sleepovers- wash bedding, clothing, and hair accessories and check head.
7. Regularly vacuum furniture, floors, and upholstery.
Review and discuss these tips with your student.
If you have any questions or need information on treatment or prevention, please contact the school nurse or your doctor.
Thank you,
Mary Clements, RN, BSN
