hays night of jazz!

a note from your director
Another week has come and gone and the success of our Jaguar Band program keeps moving ahead!
Quick celebrations from this weekend. Our Johnson Winter Guards had another successful weekend in their competitive season! Our JV Winter Guard placed 3rd in the Scholastic AA Division. This is super exciting considering that our JV group was promoted in this higher division as a result of their scores in their prior division. Our JV group was the only Junior Varsity group competing in this division. The top 3 finishers were:
Louis D. Brandeis HS Varsity 1st
Veterans Memorial Varsity 2nd
Johnson HS Junior Varsity 3rd
However on their way to a 3rd place finish the Johnson JV Winter Guard beat 6 other varsity guards including:
Copperas Cove HS Varsity 4th
Hays HS Varsity 5th
John B. Connally HS Varsity 6th
Edinburg North Varsity 7th
Bastrop HS Varsity 8th
Judson HS Varsity 9th
Our Johnson HS Varsity Winter Guard continued their undefeated season. This weekend was the first time our group has competed against the Claudia Taylor Johnson HS Varsity winter Guard! This now puts our Johnson guard continuing their undefeated run and have now beaten numerous others and now includes James Bowie HS, Ronald Reagan HS and Claudia Taylor Johnson HS! All three of these groups are Texas and National Finalist and Champions!! Can not brag on our hard working kiddos enough!
Sunday, February 20, the Night Of Jazz event was held at the Hays PAC! It featured the Jazz Bands from Dahlstrom MS, Hays HS and our own Johnson Jaguar Jazz Ensemble! It was a great evening of music and we look forward to continuing this tradition every year as we grow our Jazz Band program!
Coming this week is the middle school Pre-UIL Contest held at the PAC on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Johnson HS Band is the host of this event. We have solicited student and parent volunteers to help with event and know it is going to be incredible. If you are available Tuesday or Wednesday of this week to help with the middle school Pre-UIL event, please see consider signing up as we do still need adult volunteers.

Johnson HS Band is also the host for the HS Pre-UIL and the HS UIL Concert and Sightreading Evaluation. Both of these events happen after we return from Spring Break. Be on the lookout for the invitation to volunteer for these two events coming soon. We will need student and adult volunteers for both!
Last, but certainly not least, our trip to Hawaii is coming soon!! Every traveler MUST join the Hawaii Remind - this will be our only source of communication while on the island! If you have not signed up, here is the information.

You will be added to this remind group and will start receiving information as we get closer to departure. It is also EXTREMELY IMPORTANT that everyone understand and follow the COVID policies and procedures for Hawaii. Parents if your child is traveling without you, they must have followed the required policies from the state. This is NOT the Jaguar Band policies and this in NOT something that the Jaguar Band can do for the students. EVERY traveler must take care of these state required items. Parents, please help ensure these are completed! All U.S. domestic travelers are required to show proof of vaccine or negative test result within 72 hours of arrival in Hawaii. There are specific instructions for uploading your documentation to the state of Hawaii. Complete instruction for admission to Hawaii and quarantine exemption procedures are provided at the following web location. Please read all information at this link very carefully, including the FAQ’s: https://hawaiicovid19.com/travel/getting-to-hawaii/.
The last thing we need is for someone to not complete this process and not be allowed to travel as a result. Start completing the process NOW!! Again, these policies are not the Johnson Bands' policies and they do change from time to time, so check back regularly.
Let’s have another great week! As always: “It’s A Great Day To Be A Jaguar!”

HOW YOU CAN HELP!
HELP HOST THE TEXAS COLOR GUARD CIRCUIT
The Hosts with the Most (Texas Color Guard Circuit, March 19)
We need your help in hosting the Texas Color Guard Circuit (TCGC) on March 19th! As many of you will recall, this competition is very well-attended and provides us with not only an opportunity to showcase our program to the entire area (our competition date is the Class A Championship and Area Finals) but an opportunity to raise funds for the band and guard program! Last year we raised $7,900, and that was a COVID year!
This year, the competition will allow for students to stay and watch other guards, and there will be award retreats at the end of classifications! (That should be good for concession sales!)
BELOW ARE THE SECTION DONATIONS FOR THE JHS BAND & GUARD TCGC FUNDRAISER! DUE TUESDAY, 2/22!

DO YOU KNOW ANY VENDORS OR POTENTIAL SPONSORS? SHARE THIS INFORMATION WITH THEM!
Calling all vendors and local businesses! Are you interested in being a vendor or sponsor of the March 19th Texas Color Guard Circuit Competition Area Finals being held at Johnson High School? We anticipate having over 1400 people in attendance at this all day event that is being hosted by the Johnson Band Boosters. This is an excellent opportunity to connect with people from all over Central Texas! Please see our Event Sponsorship page for details.
Sponsors interested in sponsoring at a higher level than what is shown on this page can reach out to Carmen Sifuentes at vpfundraising@johnsonbands.com to make arrangements. The Johnson Band and Guard Programs thank you for your support of our award winning programs!

Winterguard Fees: $200
This fee covers costs such as unitards, inventory for shoe and glove replacements, competition entries, prop supplies, design and production services, and shared cost of contributing towards production of show, including cost of floors, props and costumes.
Please note that we are able to keep these costs low by 1) contribution from boosters towards costumes and props; and 2) the small amount of funds provided by the district to the overall “band” program. (FYI each color guard costume, whether it be marching band or winter guard, costs on average $200).
You can pay your Winterguard Fee on the band website at https://www.johnsonbands.com/all-products
- If you would like to make arrangements for payments or seek assistance with costs, please feel free to contact Ida Musgrove at president@johnsonbands.com. We do not want costs to prevent any student from participating in guard!
