Permenter Longhorn Check-In
Week of October 3- October 7, 2022
Message from the Principal
Thank you to those families who were able to participate in our In-Person Open House last Wednesday. We sincerely hope the information presented gave an accurate view of our accountability status, the urgent need before us with ensuring our scholars are in classes and focused on instruction, and the learning objectives for each subject and grade level. Additionally, there were volunteer opportunities available through Girl Scouts and PTSA as well as parent training on Skyward and Schoology. If you missed participating in the science labs with the science department, you truly missed a treat! Lastly, a special shout out to the ladies of the Southwest Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. for being present to register attendees to vote.
Fall parent conferences will occur soon and can be done virtually or in person. This is an optimal time to have one on one time with your scholar's teachers to discuss how they are doing in class and personal achievement goals. Please be on the lookout for messages from the teachers to schedule conference times using Sign-Up Genius. While our office parent conference dates through the district are October 13th and 14th, some teachers may be opening their appointments for meeting opportunities sooner to accommodate more schedules.
We are excited that Student Council is returning to Permenter Middle School. Ms. Hale is serving as our Student Council sponsor this year and has applications available for all scholars who are interested in participating in this great organization.
As we continue to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, our scholars will be permitted to wear articles of clothing that pay tribute to Hispanic culture this Friday, October 7th. This may include famous and noteworthy individuals of Hispanic heritage who have positively contributed to Hispanic culture. Bottoms must still be in CHISD dress code: blue/black jeans (because it is Friday) or khaki or black uniform bottoms.
Some reminders & resources:
- Report cards from the first grading cycle are visible in Skyward and have been available since Friday, September 30th.
- For families who are having difficulty accessing STAAR scores from the previous year, information was sent 6/13/2022 from the CHISD Accountability and Assessment Department. Scores are available on the Texas Education Agency Parent Portal. You can use the parent portal to review your scholar's scores. If you do not have your scholar's unique access code needed, the parent portal can provide the information once you supply the scholar's first name, social security number and birth date information.
- Continue to be mindful that there is no on-campus supervision before 8:15 AM or after 4:45 PM. Please ensure your scholar is not on campus outside of those time frames in the best interest of their safety.
- Scholars attending any athletic event hosted on any CHISD campus must be accompanied by their parent/guardian and wearing their school-issued ID badge. This includes games held at Permenter.
- Mrs. Dawn, is our 6th grade assistant principal and 8th graders with last names A-L.
- Mr. Linthecum, is our 7th grade assistant principal and 8th graders with last names M-Z.
- Please don't forget about our PTSA membership drive. The membership and Longhorn bundle can be found online here.

A Letter from The School Library Media Specialist....
Dear Permenter Families and Community
Welcome!
My name is Mrs. Warren-Lewis. I am the school library media specialist (SLMS). With my passion for learning and books, I hope to help grow and encourage a lifelong love for reading with your scholar. To that end, I plan to provide a robust library program where students are engaged in lessons that seamlessly make learning and reading both fun and interesting. In addition, with today’s ever-changing technological advances, I plan to assist our students in understanding and grasping the information literacy skills needed to both succeed and excel.
As your librarian, I will both teach and guide students to inquire, research, process, evaluate, synthesize, discover, imagine, share and celebrate. I truly believe that learning is a continual journey, where we are partners in meeting our children’s diverse needs. If we provide a solid, lifelong-learning foundation, where both academics and social needs are nurtured and encouraged, our students will impact our community positively by becoming socially responsible, productive members of our society. Please join me as we continue to learn and journey through the demands of the 21st Century. I look forward to meeting you soon.
Stop in the library and stay a while, I’ll be there with a smile.
See you in the library!

Information on ID Badges
Scholars' ID badges must be visible at all times and not in book bags, pockets or underneath clothing.
Scholars' ID badges must be replaced immediately when lost and/or damaged beyond recognition
If a scholar loses/forgets/breaks their ID badge, they must purchase a temporary ID badge for $1 or purchase a replacement for $5.
If scholars do not have the funds to purchase a temporary ID badge they may receive up to 3 temporary badges on credit, but are still required to pay for them before receiving a 4th temporary badge. After the third temporary badge, students must pay $4.00 for the previous temporary badges along with the 4th temporary ID badge. This charge will be recorded as an obligation until the amount is paid. At this time, obligations can be paid in person. Soon, this obligation will be available to be paid online via the My Payments Plus portal.
When a replacement is required, students must report to the front of the building in the morning to receive a temporary/ replacement ID badge. They will receive their printed replacement later that day if they have purchased one.
Parents will be contacted via phone each time a student doesn’t have the funds to pay for their badge.
Students will receive 1 day in Restorative after receiving 3 temporary badges on credit (if they haven’t paid for them). The scholar will continue to receive 1 day in Restorative until they have the funds to pay for the ID badge(s).
If parents are unable to pay due to financial reasons scholars will be able to complete community service on campus to pay for the badge. The school will evaluate this accommodation on a case by case basis.
Questions? Please contact Assistant Principal Mrs. Dawn via email.
Lunch Reminders for 2022-2023
