Counselor's Corner - Leading Me:
- Kindergarten is focusing on listening and following directions in October! Students are learning we listen with our eyes (focus), ears (turned on), mouth (zipped closed), & hands/feet (still & to ourselves). Create a family game or fun activity that requires listening and following directions! Find teachable moments at home to further discuss listening & following directions!
- 1st & 2nd grade are focusing on “How to Be a Good Friend” in October. Talk to your child and practice the ways to make a new friend: Say “Hello”, ask questions to start a conversation, find things in common, smile, listen, compliment, take turns, be helpful, look at the person’s eyes while he/she is talking. At home, have your child practice this skill! Make it a fun activity at the dinner table! Plan a play date w/ a student from class. Get to know a neighbor child better!
- In October, 3rd-6th grade students are focusing on setting a goal and creating a plan to reach this goal. We are calling this, “Begin With the End in Mind!”Students think of one area they can improve in school. We are writing a goal that is specific and can be measured. Then, we are writing down an action plan, several specific steps to help us accomplish the goal. We are making sure the goal is realistic and setting a time frame of the second nine week grading period. Please ask to see your child’s S.M.A.R.T goal think sheet!! Parents play an important role in reminding your child regularly about his/her goal and the steps to take to accomplish the goal! Consider creating a meaningful experience or reward if your child accomplishes his/her goal!
