Explore 3-D Watercolor Nuno Felt
Utica, NY, July 20-22, 2018
Judith Dios, Instructor
Immerse yourself in creativity and play with fiber and color as you create a hand painted nuno felted piece with fabulous 3-D surface designs. Design a wearable work of art of your own, such as a scarf, wrap, or if you have nuno felting experience, a seamless chemise, vest, or tunic. Or, make a unique journal or pillow cover, or several pieces of fiber art jewelry.
Use soft merino wool, luxurious silk fabric and hand spun silk yarns to embellish with 3-D surface designs such as rosettes, blossoms, abstract ruffles, collage layering and “corkscrew” fringe. Learn to use resists and the much-loved “No Roll Method,“ which replaces laborious traditional hand rolling, leaving more time and energy for creativity!
After your project is felted, you will hand paint color directly onto your piece using fabric dye. As the dye flows, and combines to create new colors and subtle transitions, it enhances the inherent beauty of nuno with a watercolor effect. Learn color mixing and heat setting of dyes as well as proper finishing techniques, which result in a durable and long-lasting nuno felt.
Particular attention will be paid to factors that result in a successful project. At the end of the workshop, you will take home a unique and wearable work of art, or accent piece, for your home décor!
Instructional handouts will be provided.

About Judith
Judith uses luxurious silks and the finest of soft wools and hand-paints each of her pieces, striving to wrap the wearer in sensuality, beauty and lightness. Captivated by nuno feltmaking since 2007, her passion for innovation and experimentation has led her to create intriguing texture with fabric and fibre. As much as she loves felting, she loves even more, the people it brings into her life.
Judith works from her studio on the idyllic island of Salt Spring, British Columbia, where she lives with her husband, Michael, and their little Havanese dog, Oreo, who is a "heartbeat" always at her feet! She travels and teaches in the US and Canada and her work is available for purchase in galleries and boutiques within Canada, internationally and, during the summer, at the Saturday Market on Salt Spring Island.
