Notes from the Principal
Yes, we did it! We've finally arrived to our spring vacation after such a "full" week. If you recall we had a major play production last weekend. The Further Adventures of Peter, Wendy and Hook was awesome and our cast, crew and chorus did an impressive job.
We then started Monday with the Chris Poulos stunt bike presentation (the tricks were awesome and the stories about kindness were engaging). Check out our photos and the video of Chris jumping over our Assistant Principal, Olivia Kane, and two other adults!
... We also had the District Art Show Wednesday night ... high school musicians presenting and performing to our 5th graders ... and then the 5th graders launched their rockets on Thursday afternoon. All of this wrapped in Autism Acceptance Week!
📌 Remember The Vermont Common Assessment Program (VTCAP) starts on Tuesday when we return. We are hoping all of our grade 3-5 students come to school rested and ready to do their best. Here is the information about the VTCAPs from last week:
Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will be the new VTCAPs when we return in May. VTCAPs are a change from recent federally-mandated SBACs and will take less time to take. I'll have more details of testing dates next week.
3-5 Parents, we have a Big Ask on short notice - we will no longer be having gum, mints and candy during testing week. It gets out of hand and gun shows up everywherevv- classrooms, cafeteria, busses ... everywhere.
We are asking if parents could volunteer to send in juice boxes and (wrapped) snacks for their child's class. Juice boxes and a light snack (remember your classrooms allergy guidelines) would be a nice break in between tests. Thank you for this late notice!
📌 Parents - don't forget to complete the Parent feedback form for the 2023-24 school year. To help navigate the survey feedback, we created a survey for each grade level (current year). Please fill out the grade-appropriate survey for each of your children. Remember, we cannot accept specific teacher requests and will remove an entry from our survey if a teacher request appears. Thanks.
📌 Do you remember how we've been celebrating teachers and staff for receiving awards (Tommy Hamlin recently)? We now have one more, this time one of our student teachers! Congratulations to one of our first-grade interns, Sarah Bassett, for being awarded the Student Leadership in Community-Engaged Learning award from the University of Vermont. Check out the article "An Extraordinary Force of Goodness" below, it's so impressive!
Happy Spring Break Everyone! Have an awesome week: take some time to read with your child.

SAVE THE DATE : On Thursday, May 25th the 5th grade parent are invited to an information night at FHTMS at 6:30 PM. This is an evening for parents only and not for students at this time. The students will be having other opportunities to transition and visit the middle school prior to June.
Next week, FHTMS will be sending out a parent email to 5th grade families with more info about that evening as well as the transition process.
5th Grade teachers will also be sharing information with you about upcoming visits from FHTMS staff and students, and a visit to FHTMS during the school day!
