2. Are you coming to RLA summer school?
Multnomah county residents age 12 and over can now get vaccinated at the convention center without an appointment! If you or someone in your family still needs to get their covid vaccination, now is a great time to get it done! Click here for more information about vaccinations.
Summer school is just around the corner! We will have two sessions (6/21-7/2 and 7/12-7/23). You can sign up for the first session, the second session or both! You can earn up to 2 credits if you complete both sessions. Click this link to sign up.

Animal Guide of the Week:
-Laura Craford, RLA Social Worker
For those of you who do not know what the animal cards mean…
Each newsletter I will pull a card from my deck of animal guide cards, it is our message for the week—something we need to think about, understand or that we need to remember about ourselves or a situation. This is something that I have been doing with RLA students and staff for a while now, it’s my thing. 😊 If you ever want your own card, message me (Laura) through teams or @ (740) 240-2311 and I will send you a picture of one OR come to my office for one when we were in school!

from RLA Students- RLA Seniors sharing how Emotional Intelligence can help you be successful at RLA and beyond!
Dear RLA Student,
In Wellness class this hexter we’ve been learning a lot about emotional intelligence and I’d like to share this with you. Emotional intelligence is being able to understand, use, and manage our emotions, sometimes called EQ. It helps us build strong relationships with others and ourselves since we are learning more about ourselves and what we do and don’t like. Four steps to improving your emotional intelligence are: Being aware of your emotions, understanding how others feel (also known as empathy), managing your emotional reactions, controlling your mood, and having a good mindset. Emotional intelligence helps us every day when we are put in stressful situations, it could stop us from being irrational in a situation where our emotions are really strong. It helps us relate better to other people, form healthier relationships, and achieve greater success at work. If you were ever to get into an argument with someone you could use these steps to help yourself. Think about your purpose and what you want to happen: you want to calm down and deescalate the situation because you don’t want to get hurt or be immature. Think of or go to a different place to calm down: remove yourself from the situation and walk away, take a break and reflect. Think of people who could help you: ask to speak to a counselor or a friend or mentor to help calm you down. Have a playlist: put in some music to help you cool down and help you relax something relaxing and chill. And last, have some good posture: relax your body and sit back or lay down to help your body let go and relax. Emotional Intelligence is a hard thing to master but it’s very helpful. For me, Passionfruit by Drake is a great song to help me relax. It helps me be happy and calm, it’s got a good beat but nothing crazy and it’s mellow and chill. I hope you were able to find this helpful and you will practice strengthening your emotional intelligence.

Emotional intelligence is the ability to be aware of your emotions, control, and express your emotions. Emotional intelligence allows you to understand and manage your emotions in order to motivate yourself, create positive social relationships. Emotional intelligence helps us every day by the way we behave or interact with others. Getting a better understanding of our emotions to relate to other people, form healthier relationships, achieve better things and fulfilling life. A common situation for RLA students may be that they fall behind in classes because they might say it's easy and I’ll just wait to do my school work because I have a good grade. But then just like that their grade drops down and they are panicking or rushing to do the assignments. Here are some steps; it's mainly about purpose so first clear your mind off other things that aren’t going to benefit you as in getting your grades up. Make a to-do list and figure out what are your top priorities like what assignments or quizzes weigh more and affect your grade. You want to be in a place where you feel comfortable and is quiet so you are not distracted and get sidetracked from doing your work. If you need to work with other people, work with people who are going to keep you motivated or who can help you, not someone who doesn't care about school and their grades because they will not help you. If you like to listen to music, make a playlist before considering doing your work because if you keep having to look up the song then you’ll most likely get little work done. So make the playlist in advance, also make sure it's music that is going to keep you motivated listening to music that makes you feel like you don't want to try won't help at all. Posture is important too. You need to be comfortable and relaxed so you can get the most out of yourself.

Hey party people! This week is a great week in terms of getting the vaccine! First off, people 12-15 can now get the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine! yay! Once you are vaccinated (and invincible, but not really) you can do almost all activities we could do pre pandemic as seen in the most recent CDC mask guidelines (shown below). NOT ONLY THAT, once 70% of Oregon is vaccinated Governor Brown will lift most of the restrictions put in place during the pandemic. So now is the time! Let's get past this thing! GET VACCINATED (if you medically can).
