SWMS News
Dear SWMS Family,
It is a busy week here at Southwest! We are gearing up for our annual Anti-Drug Red Ribbon Week and Homecoming this week, with many events going on to celebrate. Each day will feature a different clothing item that students can wear (please see link). We hope you can all make it out to the homecoming football game on Thursday as well as the dance on Friday. I know our students are excited to see their friends all dressed up! Thank you as always for your continued support as we conclude our first nine weeks together.

CURRICULUM HIGHLIGHTS
As we approach the spookiest time of year, 8th grade language arts students have been studying mystery and suspense fiction. This week, Ms. Robinson and Ms. Reeves' classes did a deep dive into the life and works of famed Gothic writer and poet Edgar Allan Poe in an innovative new blended learning approach to teaching and learning. The students rotated through three stations incorporating direct instruction, online viewing, and collaborative discussion to understand how an author's life influences his or her writing.
ATHLETICS
Congratulations to the Lady Spikers Volleyball Team who helped raise over $1200 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation in their annual Dig for the Cure event held on October 11th.
