Superintendent's Newsletter
October 2018
From the Desk of Superintendent Dr. John Baker:
Dear RCSD Community,
Have you thanked your school principal this month? Next time that you visit your child’s school, please do so. October is National Principals Month and as the former principal of Hoover Community School, I can tell you that this is one of the most challenging yet rewarding jobs as an educator. In fact, you may not be aware that research shows that the classroom teacher and the school principal are the two individuals in the building who have the greatest impact on a child. It certainly is not the superintendent. Our site leaders care deeply about our students and work tirelessly for their academic success and well-being. We are very fortunate to have caring and experienced instructional leaders of such high caliber in RCSD. Please #thankaprincipal this October.
This fall is turning out to be a very exciting time in RCSD! Tomorrow evening, our Board of Trustees will see for the first time the ideas that the Superintendent’s Advisory Council has generated to help RCSD tackle our challenges. We call this work, Planning for Our Future. We have been updating you about this work since the start of the school year and I continue to encourage you to remain engaged. Our parents, teachers, and staff members from each school site who make up the Superintendent’s Advisory Council have put in many hours since before the school year started. They take their role very seriously because they know the results of this community wide work will be indeed the future of RCSD and of our children and grandchildren. I am so indebted to them. I appreciate them, their compassion, their commitment to ALL RCSD children, and the passion they have for our organization. These parents and staff members have done such fantastic work and their ideas will help us shape the future of our school district. The Board of Trustees will review their ideas tomorrow evening during the Special Board Meeting Study Session: Planning for Our Future. The meeting takes place at MIT and starts at 7 pm. You and all Redwood City residents are invited.
Please remember that in addition to the study session, you and all Redwood City residents are also invited to two community forums:
Monday, October 22, 6-8 pm, MIT Auditorium
Thursday, October 25, 6-8 pm, Taft MUB
We are very excited about how this work will make our already fantastic district even better! We look forward to seeing you there and to hearing your feedback.
