SCHROEDER SNAPSHOTS
Feb 7 - Feb 21
From the Associate Principal
As this school year flies by - don’t blink as you might miss the many events your
child is participating in at Schroeder and the Grand Forks Public Schools.
Our 8th grade students registered for high school, all students are completing STAR
testing in reading and math, basketball teams are excelling on the court, our
MathCounts team competed at UND, Jazz band played at the Myra Jazz band festival,
all 7th grade and some 8th grade students presented their projects at the Schroeder
Science fair and ACDA honor choir participants practice and will be performing
tonight at the Red River HS performance hall. All of this while Spirit Week was
going on – lots of fun and friendly competition helps to lighten the mood during the
cold winter days.
Please continue to check the Schroeder website and the events calendar posted
there for details on more upcoming events. Schroeder also has a Twitter page
(@Schroederms_gf) and our boosters manage a Facebook page – all great ways to
stay informed and get involved.
The Grand Forks Public Schools is hosting a Public Forum on Monday, February 10,
2020. This event will take place at South MS starting at 7pm. This is a great
opportunity to learn more about the schools future and to share your ideas and
opinions. Another way to have a voice in the district is to be a part of the GFPS task
force. You can apply online at https://tinyurl.com/GFSD-Application starting
Tuesday, February 11, 2020.
Thank you all for your continued work and partnership in your child’s learning!

Summer School Information
The Grand Forks School District is offering summer school English and Math for 6th
and 7th grade students. Summer school runs from June 1 – June 25 from 8:00–10:00
or 10:00–12:00 or from 8:00–12:00 if you take both classes. Summer school can assist
students in retaining information as well as learning new information that will assist
them in future years. Schroeder school counselors Mr. Bommersbach/Ms. Litzinger
will be mailing letters home at the end of 3rd quarter (end of March) to students who
have been recommended by the Schroeder staff to attend summer school. If you did
not receive a letter and feel that your child would benefit from summer school, you
can register your child on the Schroeder Middle School website beginning April 1.
Please contact your child’s teacher/team if you have any concerns and want to know
exactly how your child is progressing.
9th grade global education:
8th grade students can register on the Schroeder Middle School website to take global education at Central High School from June 1 – July 7 from 7:45 – 12:25. Registration
is now open.
FROM OUR SRO
Parking lot and pedestrian safety...
- These issues have recently came up again. The parking lot issue we have is simply a matter of not having a big enough parking lot. As always, if you have a suggestion to streamline this process further, please let me or the principals know.
- Please be mindful when parking in school zones. If you park near a crosswalk, you will make it impossible for oncoming traffic to see a student that is attempting to cross. I realize that students don't always wait until vehicles have stopped before they start to cross, so be very cautious and alert. Please talk to your child about crossing streets, especially how dangerous it is when they don't use a crosswalk.
- As a reminder, below are some City Codes that pertain to right of way of pedestrians.
City Code 8-0404.- Right-of-way of pedestrians--Intersections.
- (1) No vehicle shall cross such crosswalk where traffic is so regulated until pedestrains who have properly commenced to cross the street have completed their passage across in front of such vehicle, and any vehicle permitted to turn to either right or left shall yield the right-of-way to all pedestrians who are proceeding on crosswalks in a direction authorized by the officer or traffic signal, and failure to yield such right-of-way shall be a violation of this section.
- (2) All vehicles shall yield the right-of-way to pedestrians upon all crosswalks, and failure to yield such right-of-way shall be a violation of this section, provided, however the intersection is not being regulated by an officer or traffic signals, in which case the provisions of section 8-0403 of this article shall govern.

If you have any questions about an app that your child has, this website is really good about providing a complete review of the app and whether it's safe or not.
As always, if you have any comments, questions or concerns, feel free to call me anytime.
