reflections from mass
From the story Father Tim shared on Friday, the lesson from the homily is that we should be doing our own work, not relying on people to do it for us. We should also help others if they are not feeling their greatest or even if they ask for help, because that's one of our jobs as a disciple of Christ. Another part of the homily was that if we say we are a believer of Christ, we should show it and share it with others so that they could believe in God. - Mireya
It is our duty as a Christian to follow Jesus. If you are a Christian, you need to believe and pray to God regularly. You can't just pray to God whenever you want something or want His help. You can't just say you believe in God but then not show it. It is our duty to pray and believe in him even when times get rough. - Logan

Thank you for making an effort to have your child(ren) at school on time daily. This helps efficiency in our office, minimizes disruptions in the classroom, and maximizes your student's learning in the classroom.
Terra Nova Testing
- Ensure your child arrives at school on time daily. Testing occurs first thing every day. When students arrive on time to school, it gives them the chance to get settled and ready to start the test with the rest of the class.
- Be sure your child has a good night sleep throughout the week.
- Be sure your child has a healthy breakfast and brings a snack daily.
You can anticipate the workload and assessments to be lighter throughout the scheduled testing dates. This is our attempt to help students focus, and do their best, on the Terra Novas. It also eliminates the excuse that a child didn't get a good night sleep because of homework.
report cards
Report cards will be sent out via email on Friday to all parents. Please watch for this email. If you have any questions or concerns about your child's progress, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher.
*Please note that due to Mrs. James' recent absence due to the death of her husband, you will not have a music grade on your child's report card. Mrs. James has returned to school and is working to get grades finalized. We will reissue report cards with music grades at a later date. Please give Mrs. James some time to get caught up before reaching out to her regarding your child's grade. I appreciate your patience and understanding in this difficult time.

raising kids in a digital age isn't easy
Here are two tips…
1. Set timers to have a limit to the amount of time spent on the device, not to exceed 2 hours a day while keeping in mind they spend time on devices at school.
2. Use “Bark” or another parental control app that monitors for signs of cyberbullying, depression, online predators, etc.
Catapult Learning
Your school staff and Catapult Learning will be leading a universal mental health screener in your child’s school classroom/virtual platform for the duration of time listed below:
March 1-March 14, 2022
During this time, teachers will be completing a 10-question multiple choice survey that focuses on emotions and behaviors exhibited in the classroom.
The results will be viewed by the Catapult Learning clinician to determine recommendations for a specific group session, individual therapy, or referral for other services.
100% of screening results are confidential to the Catapult Learning clinician and stored in a HIPAA compliant space.
Catapult Learning services are provided to students with parental permission to participate. If you DO NOT wish for your child to participate in this classroom guidance service, please send a notification via e-mail by March 4, 2022, to the e-mail address listed below in order to opt out.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Haas at thaas@stjosephwhschool.org.

scholarship information for 2022-2023
Family Empowerment Scholarship for Students with Unique Abilities (FES-UA) (Formerly Gardiner or McKay Scholarships) allows parents of students with unique abilities to personalize the education of their children by directing scholarship dollars toward St. Joseph Catholic School. This would include any student with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or a qualifying documented disability from a licensed physician. Many diagnoses by a physician qualify, including anaphylaxis, autism, intellectual disability, and other health impairment; i.e. ADD, Asthma, and Type 1 Diabetes. On average, this scholarship is $10,000.
Additionally, all children in a family who have a sibling on the FES-UA scholarship, regardless of income, will qualify for a “Family Empowerment Scholarship for Educational Options” (FES-EO).
Family Empowerment Scholarship for Educational Options (FES-EO) and the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship Program give parents the ability to choose a school that best meets their children’s needs by providing a scholarship to attend St. Joseph Catholic School. Eligibility is determined by household income. For example, a family of four in the 2021-22 school year could make almost $100,000 annually and qualify. For applications for the 2022-23 school year, we are anticipating a family of four could make almost $112,000 annually and qualify. These numbers are not usually finalized until later in the year. Dependent children of a reservist or an active-duty military member of the United States Armed Forces automatically qualify for this scholarship based on his or her parent’s service to our country, regardless of income. On average, this scholarship is $7,000.
