Half Day School
Island Mapping
Fifth-graders created adventure maps that told a story about themselves. Students created maps to describe their hobbies, families, and other interests. Check out some of the maps in the Half Day Google Folder.
New Staff
Half Day welcomes the following individuals:
MAP Testing Reminder
Tuesday, August 30 (Math), and Wednesday, August 31, 2022 (Reading).
Automated Attendance Reminder
The 2022-2023 school year automated attendance calling begins this week. Automated messaging will be sent to parents via phone call, text, and email from our messaging service, BlackBoard.
If your child will be absent or tardy, please contact the appropriate school by the following time so that you will NOT receive an automated message of your child’s absence on that day.
- Half Day – Call by 9:00 a.m. (Please call 847-634-1484 or email Hd_attendance@d103.org)
When calling or emailing, provide the following information:
- Spell out your child's first and last name.
- Your student's school ID, if possible.
- Your child's teacher's name (for Sprague and Half Day schools).
- Your child's grade.
- Reason for the absence (include symptoms if your child is ill).
Plans Change? Send a Note
Should your child's after school plans veer from their normal routine, please send a "paper" note to school with your child.
Note for Pre-Arranged Plans Should Include:
Date
Child's name
Teacher's name
Details, such as "being picked up by parent and will not be riding the bus home after school" or "will not attend 103 Club and will take the bus home", etc.
Paper notes are important because they are used to notify the teacher and/or substitute teacher, the office, sometimes the bus driver, and the 103 Club.
The teacher reviews the note in the morning and sends it to the office.
The office makes copies of the notes for reference at the end of the day.
The original note is then sent back to the classroom at 2:00 p.m. so the child has the note as a reminder at the end of the day.
Please use a "Note from Home" provided by the PTO. Yellow note pads are sold by our PTO and are available in the school office for purchase.
District 103 News
COVID Testing for Students
The District will offer a weekly COVID-19 PCR testing to all families and staff members free of charge. This year, the District has partnered with the University of Illinois’ SHIELD program to provide the tests. We have also partnered with Passport Health & Preventive Health Partners, our Operations Partner, to collect and prepare the tests for analysis.
Additionally, we will continue to provide onsite antigen testing using the BinaxNow tests for individuals exhibiting COVID like symptoms or suspected of having COVID. The BinaxNow tests will be administered at school with results in 15 minutes. Parents will be contacted prior to antigen tests being given to your child.
Testing is voluntary and will require consent to participate. If your child were to test positive, your child would need to be excluded from school and follow the guidelines listed in the IDPH Guidance. For information on testing, please refer to the FAQ document.
If you wish to participate in PCR or antigen testing, please complete the consent and waiver form by Monday August 29, 2022. Please complete a separate form for each child that will participate in testing.
Unified Classroom Decommissioning
Due to an issue reported by PowerSchool, guardians will need to access the PowerSchool Parent Portal through a new web address beginning the evening of Friday, August 26. To access the Parent Portal through the new web address, please use the following steps:
Click on the “Parent Sign In” button
On the next screen, click on the forgotten password link, and follow the instructions to reset your password and login
When prompted for an email address, enter the email address you previously used for logging into the Parent Portal/Unified Classroom.
We will send a follow up communication tomorrow to confirm when the new Parent Portal is available.
