Reading & Writing Units of Study Updates
Kudos for surviving the first 3 months of school using the UoS! We all have grown leaps and bounds. We all should feel proud and empowered to conquer even MORE!
During the month of November, we will administer the BAS reading assessment. Release days will be provided and substitutes have been assigned to you. We are avoiding Assessment Slide as best as we can during this month of testing. The expectation is that we are still providing RTI interventions and seeing one 10 minute small group during Reading & Writing Workshop. This means we can do 1 BAS assessment during Reading and 1 BAS assessment during Writing.
Next up on our UoS Rollout process is 1-1 conferring and student-driven goal setting. We will provide professional learning and safe practice during the month of November. We look forward to learning and growing alongside you!

AVID Strategy of The Month: Philosophical Chairs
Subject Matter Application:
In theory, learning happens when students use critical thinking to resolve subsequent conflicts, which arise when presented with alternative perspectives, ideas, or contradictions to what they have previously learned or believed. "Philosophical Chairs" is a technique to allow students to critically think, verbally ponder, and logically write their beliefs.
