A Message from the Administrative Team
Hi WJHS Families,
Wow - what a difference a weekend makes! After some mild weather, it really started feeling like winter this past week. As a reminder, students will eat indoors if the RealFeel is less than 40 degrees and will have indoor recess if the temperature is less than 10 degrees RealFeel. Please make sure your child leaves home with the items they need to stay warm at recess!
One of our core values in our D39 Strategic Plan, is Connected Community: We strengthen our communities through communication, collaboration, and partnership. With this in mind, we would like to cultivate empathetic students by thinking of others this holiday season, and giving to those in need if we are able. Our seventh grade students will collect new, unwrapped toys to be donated to Chicagoland Toy Drive with ChiGivesBack. You can find the flier here. Eighth grade students will donate to "A Just Harvest" and you can find the flier here, which includes a wish list. We are looking forward to talking with students about thinking of others, generosity and empathy towards our community. Thank you for your support.
Have a great weekend!
Kate, Jeff and Eric
Student Vaccination Documentation
As children in the 5-11 age group are beginning to receive their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, we wanted to pass along some information regarding vaccine documentation. If your child is fully vaccinated, or when they become fully vaccinated, please complete some basic information and upload a copy of the vaccination card within PowerSchool. You may disregard this email if you have previously provided information.
At this time, we are not requiring families to provide D39 with documentation of the vaccination record. Please be aware, however, that those without a record of vaccination on file will be required to follow the health protocols for unvaccinated individuals.
These instructions are only for parents of children with COVID vaccination cards who have received the final dose of the COVID vaccination. Do not proceed until your child has received the final dose.
- Take a photo or scan your child’s COVID vaccination card
- Use a desktop/laptop and navigate to the PowerSchool Parent Portal at ps.wilmette39.org
- Once logged in, click Forms on the left side
- Select COVID Vaccination Upload
- Complete the form for each child

Winter Sports Spectator Protocol
Protocol for Spectators
- Each player is allowed to have 2 spectators attend games. These two spectators should sit together and be spaced 6 feet apart from other households.
- Masks are required of all attendees.
- Once your player is finished with their game you must leave the facility to allow room for other spectators to enter for the next game.
- Siblings of players may attend, but they count towards one of the 2 spectators.
- The student body will not be able to attend games at this time.
Tech Tidbit
Goodreads is a free book-focused website that helps you keep track of what you read and lets you review books. Once you rate books or mark them as read, Goodreads will recommend new books for you to read. With a Goodreads account, you can also join book clubs, participate in challenges, see what your friends are reading, enter giveaways for new books, comment on forums, ask authors questions and more. Downloading the App will allow you to scan books to browse reviews and add to your want to read section. “What is Goodreads?" explains everything that you need to know about it. If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to read more or do a reading challenge, then check out Goodreads.
District Update
COVID Safety Precautions
New Trier Township, like much of the rest of the country, has experienced an increase in COVID-19 cases in recent weeks. We encourage all students and families to continue to carefully monitor symptoms and to take advantage of free COVID testing options. For additional information, families are encouraged to review our updated D39 Response to Illness Booklet, the CCDPH list of COVID-19 symptoms, and the D39 COVID-19 Testing Page.
SHIELD Testing Continues
Thank you to all who are participating in the SHIELD Illinois testing program which allows the district to offer free COVID-19 PCR testing. SHIELD testing is available at Wilmette Junior High School on Tuesdays and Thursday from 3:30-6:30 pm and on Saturdays from 8:00-11:00 am. Anyone who has registered for the program is welcome to access testing. During winter break, we are pleased to continue to offer SHIELD testing on a limited schedule. SHIELD testing will be available during winter break on Tuesday, Dec. 21 and Tuesday, Dec. 28 from 3:30-6:30 pm at Wilmette Junior High School. Please note that processing times may be impacted by the holiday.
Travel Guidelines from CCDPH
With winter break approaching, all families should remain apprised of the regular updates provided by the Cook County Department of Public Health (CCDPH) regarding travel restrictions. Families are expected to review and follow these guidelines. D39 COVID-19 Testing Page offers a variety of options for testing. Regardless of vaccination status, anyone with symptoms of COVID-19 must stay home from school, isolate and seek testing. Thank you for helping us maintain a healthy, in-person school environment for students and staff.
Student Vaccination Submission
With children in the 5-11 age group continuing to receive their COVID-19 vaccine, we encourage families to upload their child(ren)’s vaccination card via PowerSchool. Instructions were sent out in an email titled “Student COVID Vaccine Information” on Monday, Nov. 29. With more students becoming eligible for vaccination, we anticipate a review of health and safety protocols in January.
Cold Weather Preparations
As the last week has shown, colder weather is upon us! Please help your children prepare their clothing so that they can comfortably and safely enjoy outdoor experiences and play. Students go outside for recess daily and are also outdoors during other portions of their day, unless extreme weather prevents this. To help keep our students safe and able to fully enjoy their outdoor time, students are encouraged to dress warmly. Hats, gloves, winter coats, snow pants and boots are strongly encouraged. In addition, information regarding the district’s plans and procedures for extreme weather and weather related school closure preparedness can be found here. Although we always try to avoid cancelling school due to severe weather, the health and safety of students and staff are a priority.
