From the Desk of Mr. Ruedinger
The Fall season is upon us as we navigate our way into October. It has been a busy week at CCA with students in grades K-8 taking the Map tests in math, reading, and language arts. It is always exciting to see the growth in students from year to year, both physically and intellectually. The results will be coming home in the next week or so in preparation for parent/student conferences on October.
Picture proof sheets are in the Carrier today. Please complete the order form, make the check payable to HARMANN STUDIOS (or pay by credit card), and return the form by Thursday, October 3rd.
Walk to School Day is October 2nd. We look forward to having the entire school participate this year and showing your school spirit. See the flyer in the Carrier today
The CCA Calendar Raffles for 2020 will be in this week's Carrier along with incentive information. This is a major fundraiser for our school and the goal is for each family to sell 20 calendar raffles. These may be sold face-to-face or online via our school website if your relatives or friends do not live nearby.
The busing on Wednesdays will be delayed. The bus will pick up students from CCA at 3:15 pm even though the early dismissal is at 2:20 pm. Students taking the bus will be supervised in the resource center.

Parenting in the 21st Century
The Importance of Sleep to Students.
Are your children getting the sleep they should to be at their peak for school and enjoying a healthy lifestyle? With the increase in gaming, cell phone usage, and overall electronic screen time, students are getting less and less sleep each night. Research indicates children that lack sleep tend to display Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)-like symptoms affecting their ability to concentrate in school.
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has issued guidelines outlining recommended sleep duration for children from infants to teens.
The consensus group recommends the following sleep hours:
Infants 4 months to 12 months should sleep 12 to 16 hours per 24 hours (including naps) on a regular basis to promote optimal health.
Children 1 to 2 years of age should sleep 11 to 14 hours per 24 hours (including naps) on a regular basis to promote optimal health.
Children 3 to 5 years of age should sleep 10 to 13 hours per 24 hours (including naps) on a regular basis to promote optimal health.
Children 6 to 12 years of age should sleep 9 to 12 hours per 24 hours on a regular basis to promote optimal health.
Teenagers 13 to 18 years of age should sleep 8 to 10 hours per 24 hours on a regular basis to promote optimal health.
The group found that adequate sleep duration for age on a regular basis leads to improved attention, behavior, learning, memory, emotional regulation, quality of life, and mental and physical health. Not getting enough sleep each night is associated with an increase in injuries, hypertension, obesity and depression, especially for teens who may experience increased risk of self-harm or suicidal thoughts.
In addition to these recommendations, the AAP suggests that all screens be turned off 30 minutes before bedtime and that TV, computers and other screens not be allowed in children's bedrooms. For infants and young children, establishing a bedtime routine is important to ensuring children get adequate sleep each night. The AAP program, "Brush, Book, Bed," is available here: http://bit.ly/bedroutine.

We decided to purchase new scooters, for physical education class and will be utilized in all grades. Some of the scooters that were replaced were from 1981 and 1986.

Accreditation Self-Study Update
This school year we will run 8 regular Bingo Sessions and 1 SPECIAL HOLIDAY Bingo Session.
Each family will be responsible to work one regular bingo session, donate to one regular bingo session and participate in some way for the SPECIAL HOLIDAY Bingo Session.
Each grade will be assigned the session that they are to work and donate. You will then have the opportunity to choose the time slot or donation item of your choice. All slots must be filled by September 15th, 2019. If at that time, you have not signed up or have not volunteered in other areas, you might be assigned a slot for bingo. Remember that volunteers need to be 18 years or older and can be members of your family or friends.
We are looking to have 100% of our CCA families volunteer at CCA this year!
