Week of October 5th
From the Desk of Mrs. Schmid
As you learned last week, Brookdale will be piloting 1st and 5th grade return to in-person learning starting the week of October 12th. More information regarding the pilot and the Monday's board meeting can be found below. We appreciate all of our community championing behind the success of the pilot. A win for the pilot is a win for all of Brookdale and District 204. No matter where you stand in your choice to have your child return to in-person learning, having the choice is something many have expressed interest in at the school and district level and has been part of the district plan when remote learning was announced in August.
If your student is requested to come to school this week, please see the two documents: in person instruction procedures and self-certification document. I have also linked these documents below to keep on future Brookdale Bulletins.
We will continue to provide communication as plans move forward to bring more students back to in-person learning. As I shared with staff at the beginning of the year and continue to say...my excitement is greater than my fear! We could not be more excited to get to see more students at the building. This week we will be putting final touches in preparing the building to welcome our pilot students back to in-person learning safely.
Thank you for your continued support!
Brookdale Remote Learning Library
Remember that Brookdale’s First Book Checkout is tomorrow, Monday, Oct 5th. If your student put a book on hold AND you received an email that the book or books are ready to be picked up, please come to Brookdale on Monday Oct 5th to our first Remote Learning LMC Book Pick up.
Alert: Monday Schedule!
Just a reminder that this coming Monday, October 5th is our another Monday in session with students. Remote learning ends at 1:00 p.m. on Mondays.
As a parent/guardian, if you are looking for resources for your child after 1 P.M. please refer to Monday Afternoon Opportunities. These activities are suggestions for independent time on Monday afternoons. The afternoon time does not need to be structured and families may add their own ideas. These activities also do not need to be submitted to the classroom teacher. Because of the amount of technology used during the rest of the week, we included all no screen time options. However, if families are interested, they can access any other software resources students use during remote learning. Teachers will be using this valuable time for professional development and team collaboration.
Return to In-Person Learning Pilot
Parents will be notified of their child's group assignment on Tuesday, October 6th as well as their child's grade level schedule.
I am happy to share, we had two goals during our planning of the pilot we were able to maintain:
1. Little to no impact to support service schedules (interventions, special education services, gifted)
2. Ensure both in-person learners and remote learners receive the same amount of Tier 1, live instruction.
We courage you to watch Monday's School Board of Education meeting where the proposed plans will be shared for all grade levels return to in-person learning choice beginning second quarter. The Board Meeting can be streamed live on the District's YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/IndianPrairie204. The results of the district survey will also be shared at the board meeting.
Fastest and easiest way: Enter it into ParentVUE on the computer or download the app! Put as many details into the notes as possible, and our office will adjust as needed.

Happy Birthday, Bobcats!
This year, you can make your student’s birthday CAT-TASTIC with a visit from "Bob" the Brookdale Bobcat! Half-birthdays work, too! Simply sign up using the link below and tell us when you want “Bob” to visit your student. He will arrive between 8-8:30am at the address you provide (it must be within 5 miles of Brookdale, please! Poor Bob’s car doesn’t get the best gas mileage ;)
All participants must wear masks. Bob will greet your student outside their residence, pose for pictures, and hand your student a special birthday gift.
All birthday visits are $20 and must be paid in full before Bob visits. You can pay online via Paypal to Brookdale PTA using the link below.
