Motivational Monday
November 16th
6 days until Thanksgiving break!
I would like to share this from Dr. Tim Elmore, who was the keynote speaker at the conference I attended last week:
Today's youth are the 1st generation that:
1. Don't need adults to get information
2. Broadcast their every thought or emotion
3. Enjoy external stimuli at their fingertips 24/7
4. Are in social contact at all times yet often in isolation
5. Adults have enabled to be narcissistic (it's the selfie generation)
6. Use a phone instead of a watch, camera, calendar, alarm clock, map or board game
Sometimes it can be extremely difficult counseling students, teaching students, and even just speaking to students because of technology. At times... okay most of the time, students think they know more than us already (or they can just Google it if they don't) and therefore they sometimes just don't care what we have to say. Another quote I heard over my time at the MSCA conference is the one above, "Kids don't care what you know until they know you care." There is so much truth to that... kids need to know we care, truly care about them. Once students know we genuinely care about them amazing things start to happen, they start to open up and they start to listen a little more. Thank you guys for caring about our students! The holiday's can be so difficult for many of them, I'm glad they know that they have teachers that are there for them and that care about them.
