Jag E-News
Week 38: May 23, 2022
Hey Jags,
We have made it to the final week of the 2021-2022 school year. It has been a full school year and I know that everyone is looking forward to the summer break. Although we only have four days left, our students and teachers have a lot to accomplish in that time as they embrace high school credit exams and other end of year activities. During the final two days of school, May 25th and May 26th, no backpacks will be allowed on campus. Students should bring the following supplies with them:
- pencils/pens
- test review material
- a book to read
- band/orchestra instrument (if applicable)
- a lunch from home (if not purchasing/ordering from cafeteria)
- girls may bring a small purse, if needed
Bags, backpacks, large purses, etc., brought to school on May 25th and 26th will be collected at the entrances as students arrive, and they will be returned to students at the end of the day. We appreciate your support in having conversations with your students about expectations for the last week of school. I hope that everyone has an awesome last week of school and an incredible summer!
Sincerely,
Cholly Oglesby
Principal

School Expectations & Reminders
- Hallway Expectations: Students are expected to move from one class to the next and should always walk on the right side of the hallway. That includes walking up or down stairs on the right side and using doors that are on the right side. This creates opportunities for student traffic to flow throughout the school and for students to be safe in the hallways.
- No Running: We have seen an increase in the number of students running in the hallways and many times this leads to injuries of multiple students. Running will not be tolerated at at Sartartia Middle School and consequences will be assigned for any student running in the hallway. Please remind your child that running in the school is dangerous and will have consequences such as lunch and after school detention.
- Cell Phones & Devices: All students must adhere to our "Away for the Day" policy. All devices, including cell phones, tablets, airpods, headphones, etc., will be confiscated if they are visible in the hallway or in classrooms.
- Lunch Drop-Off: Parents may drop-off lunch for your student before the scheduled lunch period. All lunches should be dropped off to the cart at the front office and clearly labeled with your child's name. You may not drop off lunch for any student other than your own child and students will not be allowed to bring in multiple deliveries into the school cafeteria.
- Tardies: In an effort to ensure that students are safely moving through the hallways and getting to class on time, we will continue Tardy Sweeps through the end of the school year. Any students that are in the hallways after the tardy bell rings, will be escorted to the office and assigned a detention. Students have 5 minutes to transition between class periods and are expected to be in their classes on time. Students are also not allowed to leave class during the first 10 minutes or last 10 minutes of every class. We call this the 10/10 Rule. Students that leave the class at any time are expected to have a pass signed by their teacher with the time and location of where they are going. Students that are in the hallways without passes will also be assigned a disciplinary consequence.
FBISD Medication Policy
- All medications must be brought in by a parent/guardian in the original container. This includes prescription and non-prescription drugs, including cough drops. The child should not be sent to school with medications to bring to the clinic. Students are not allowed to carry their own meds to and from school. Please do not send loose pills in a baggy in your child’s lunch kit or backpack. If your child must take prescription medications at school and at home, please ask your pharmacist to dispense them in two separate, properly labeled containers so that we may keep one at school.
- All medications must be kept in the clinic office. For the protection of all students, medications may not be kept by students, including inhalers and cough drops, unless given written permission by their personal physician.
- All medications must be submitted with written instructions from a parent. All prescription medications also need a signature of a physician. An appropriate medication administration form must be completed by the parent or guardian and should include the child’s full name and amount of medication to be taken, reason for taking the medication, and the time it is to be given. Over-the-counter medications (such as Advil or Tylenol) can only be given according to the label directions for your child’s age and weight unless accompanied by a note from a physician. Any medication needed for more than 15 school days requires a note on file from a physician. Medications needed three times a day should be given at home around school hours ~ check with your child’s physician.
- School personnel will not give any medication unless provided by the parent. We do not house OTC meds that can be given randomly for fevers or pain.
- Medications must be picked up at the end of the school year by an adult. They cannot be sent home with the students or housed over the summer. Any meds left in the clinic at the end of the year will be discarded per district policy.
