The longtime tradition of Senior Blocks is still happening at the high school! Each year seniors purchase blocks and a group of senior artists paint them in the hallways, giving students the chance to leave their mark on APCSD.

STUDENTS WIN MUSIC FESTIVAL AWARDS
The Rensselaer County School Music Association held its annual scholarship festival recently (this year virtually), and three Averill Park students took home awards - the largest number of winners in recent history! Congratulations to Haley Surprenant - First Place, Grade 11-12 Category; Anthony Pastizzo - Second Place, Grade 11-12 Category; and David Morelli - First Place, Grade 6-8 Category.

CARLEY SALERNO ACHIEVES FRENCH SEAL
Carley Salerno achieved her New York State Seal of Biliteracy in French graduation distinction this week by giving a presentation about Django Reinhardt, Edith Piaf, and Paul Van Haver - three francophone singers/musicians who overcame different levels of adversity to succeed in the world of music! Evaluating Carley's presentation were Mrs. Catherine Caruso, APCSD French and Spanish teacher (retiring this year), and APHS class of 2004 alumnus Dr. Christopher Tozzi, currently of the Science and Technology Studies department at RPI.
CELEBRATING RED NOSE DAY
On Red Nose Day Food Service Workers packed elementary food bags wearing red noses. The day brings attention to children in need.
STUDENTS RUN VIRTUAL 5K
West Sand Lake Elementary students Jenna and Mia completed the Freihofer 5K Run for Women virtually!
NEW END OF YEAR DATE
The last day of the 2019-2020 school year for Averill Park Central School District K-12 students, faculty, staff and 10-month employees is Friday, June 19. It was originally scheduled for Friday, June 26. This new date marks our 180th day of school, which meets the requirement for state aid from the State Education Department.
