President's Message
A few years ago I was reminded that nothing in our town happens without volunteers. Redding is a strong knit community of quiet helpers, kind neighbors and creative friends. On the 2-year anniversary of over 100 parents, staff and neighbors helping to build the RES playground, a smaller team of parents constructed two new outdoor student classrooms. In the midst of chaos, we can still make a difference for our kids! The disruption of the long-tail of COVID will not change the opportunity to make an impact on our community.
Here's a sneak peak of ideas in the works ...
...Halloween Spirit at RES
...Drive-In and watch a movie as a family (members-only)
...It's not just coffee and donuts ... it's meditation sessions for our amazing staff
...How to Parent Amazing sessions
Thank you for choosing the best way for your family to support our efforts and don't forget your membership as we have exciting member-only events coming soon!
New Outdoor Seating at RES!
A small team of Redding parents embarked on the cutting, placement, and development of outdoor class seating this weekend. The Redding Highway Department kindly cut and delivered 40 stumps to be placed in two spaces -- the Kindergarten bowl area and the grassy knoll to the back of the 3rd grade classrooms -- 6 ft apart. The stumps were placed, primed and painted in bright colors. We can't wait to see the kids enjoying a place to sit and learn outside. A third set of bench seats are planned inside the sensory garden and work will begin shortly. If you want to lend a hand, please contact respta4kids@gmail.com.
Special thank you to project lead Mary Campbell and the team of parents including Gabriel McMahon, Peter Gephardt, and Danielle Garavito. Huge hugs to Patrick Schuchard, Patrick Gerbracht and Rob Miller for stepping in on Saturday morning to help move the wood stumps!
Calling All Gardeners!
We need a family, a group of friends or an avid gardener to take over the love and care of the small outdoor garden space at the front of the school. The space is a mixture of perennial plantings and seasonal annual additions to make a delightful welcome each day for all students. Plant and decor costs are underwritten by PTA Funds. If you are interested in working with the space, please contact us at respta4kids@gmail.com.

Route 2 Prevention
Route 2 Prevention is a coalition dedicated to building kids and communities that can cope with life’s challenges. We believe good mental health and substance abuse prevention begins well before the early signs of trouble. It begins when we set ourselves and our kids up for success: building healthy mindsets, strong bodies, and full hearts. R2P collaborates with local and regional organizations to bring education and programming, advocacy, and community-building activities to Easton and Redding. Here are a few of our upcoming activities:
- Go Live Girls’ Confidence Camp! Highly acclaimed for helping girls grades 4-8 build confidence and self-advocacy. Free Zoom event; begins October 19.
- Best Lives Book Club for Adults. Co-hosted by Easton and Mark Twain Libraries. First meetings Week of October 19.
- Best Lives Companion Book List for Kids. Twelve wonderful books for explaining big ideas around self-compassion, handling life’s challenges, and successfully finding their own way in the world. *Curated by Turning the Page bookstore in Monroe.
- Forest Bath Walks in local Easton and Redding parks.
- Hay Loft Yoga at Shaggy Coos (October Only)
- Roundtable Talk on Abuse – Mid-November

RES has heART!
Did you know every student at RES received an individual art kit? The RES PTA was one of only two organizations in Connecticut to be awarded a $5,000 grant from the National PTA and TikTok to support social and emotional learning. Our ART KITS are in motion as the children will begin a community mural project using small individual 4"x4" tiles to create heARTs! A huge thank you to Mimi Weiss for leading the project with all K-4 students. We can't wait to see it!
