The Cougar Connection

A Corporation Wide Newsletter

*From Mr. Gaff's Desk*

Thank you for a great start to the school year!

Every year starts with both frustration and excitement. Recent changes in administration and curriculum have required some significant flexibility and perseverance by the teachers, the students, and the community. The transition is often slow but consistent, diligent effort is often rewarded.

I have been repeatedly told by a wise woman (my mother), “Inch by inch, anything is a cinch.” Continue to plug on one inch at a time, or in education terms, one student at a time. Remaining positive and keeping lines of communication open will help to ensure that we are continuing to work toward the common good.

Transition is never easy, but failing to meet the ever-changing needs of the students is never acceptable. We cannot remain status quo and expect the results or the students to change. We must be the change agent. As good as we are, we can always get better.

Keep moving forward. I am proud of the progress we are making everyday. #CN PROUD

Thanks for all you do.

*Changes @ Central Office*

With the hiring of a new Business Manager, the Central Office is seeing many changes. Our first project is working to streamline processes and become more efficient. In working towards this, we want to make you all aware of where tasks lie so that you know who to ask for.

Miranda Wilkins-Business Manager

~Miranda will be the go to for any questions regarding the budget, appropriations, Grants & accounts payable.

Jewel Leatherman-Payroll & Benefits

~In addition to Payroll, Jewel is now fully focusing on the HR side of CN by taking over the Benefits section. If you have questions about your pay, vacation/leave time, FMLA, Insurance, Contracts, PESG, etc..., she will help you out.

Jamie Howard-Corp. Secretary/Transportation Assistant

~Jamie is now taking on Purchasing from Jewel. PO's will still be approved through the Business Manager, but will now go to her to be purchased from the vendor, so reach out to her with any questions on status.

This is a big process, with a learning curve, but everyone is excited about the direction we're headed and what this means for the Corporation!

*transportation news*

Over the summer the Transportation Department held it's Annual Safety Meeting. All bus drivers are required to attend and test at this meeting. The topics cover student safety, bullying, railroad crossings as well as other hot topic items in regards to safety in student transportation. We had 100% passing, with all drivers receiving their updated Yellow card.

Please take a moment to give ALL the drivers a high five for their efforts on building routes. We're amazed at how it just falls together and all students get to school on that first day. The Corporation is blessed to have dedicated drivers who make it happen!

We also held our First of 2 mandated Bus Evacuation Drills. These drills must be completed in 2 minutes or less with results being reported to DOE. Both the Albion Campus and Wolf Lake Campus did a great job in orchestrating the drills, all with passing times! Way to go!!

Lastly, we are again planning to do Trick or Treat with Bus. Plans are still in the works, but keep an eye out for volunteer opportunities. This was an extremely fun and rewarding event that we look forward to expanding this year!
