Picture Re-Take Day
End of the First Nine Weeks
Hard to believe but we are already at the end of the first quarter. This is a great time for us to take a look at how things are going and collaborate with one another to ensure the success of our students. Here are a couple things to be thinking about.
- Course Credit: As a reminder to all students and parents, all of our courses are now semester courses, meaning at the end of the 2nd nine weeks students will receive (.5) half a credit for each class they pass. If they do NOT pass the class then they will not receive that credit and will need to recover it at a later time. Please contact the office if you have questions about this. It is critical that your child passes at the semester in order to receive credit. Otherwise, they will need to make it up. Please contact your child's teacher with any concerns you have and make sure you check their grades in Powerschool fairly regularly.
- Grade Reporting: The High School will run grades at the end of the first nine weeks. If a student receives a (D) or an (F) in any class their parents will receive a letter in the mail recommending that they schedule a conference with the teacher during parent teacher conferences. We DO NOT mail home grade cards. Grades can be accessed online through powerschool. If you do not know how to access theses or have
difficulties doing so, just contact the office and we will get you taken care of. Checking Grades: You can also download the Powerschool App on your mobile devices and check your child's grades right from your phone. (See instructions Below)

Otsego FIT-Knights
Otsego Local Schools has put together a Wellness Committee to promote the health and well-being of our students. The District believes that for students to have the opportunity to achieve personal, academic, developmental and social success, we need to create positive, safe and health-promoting learning environments at every level, in every setting, throughout the school year. We will be implementing various activities over the course of the year related to student health. Parents and Guardians can help by encouraging your children to eat healthy at home. The FIT-Knights Committee will be meeting again Thursday, October 19, at 3:30 in the elementary library. Staff, parents, and community members are welcome!

Endowment Grant Recipients
Community Garden. $3,000. The funding was provided as a way to further establish the initiative, particularly the green house. The board appreciated the cross-school reach of the programming, as well as its impact on the community. The money will go toward the purchase of material and supplies for the greenhouse and additional raised beds (elementary building.)
Flexible Seating. $8,000. The funding was provided to Ms. Krupp as a pilot test on the impact of flexible seating on learning enrichment in the high school. It includes mobile desks and seats that lend themselves to grouping or individual work, accompanied by couches and stand up desks. We don't anticipate funding additional furniture requests but hope, if the concept works well, future renovations and school funding will move in this direction. Fluid classroom seating has been introduced into the business environment and is beginning to be introduced in the classroom to promote creativity and collaboration. We would like to work with Ms. Krupp to put some metrics in place to assess the success of this initiative.
Knights Have Your Back. $1,000. This grant impacts multiple consumer and family science high school classes with an added benefit for the elementary student families in need. This program allows various classes to develop and launch an in school t-shirt business with the profits going to provide bags of food each Friday to elementary student families with need. Classes have developed a logo and are researching how to launch the business. Other courses are evaluating dietary requirements for what to include in the bags.
Lego Education STEM Kits. $2,771.21. This funding was provided to the 5th grade (with hopes that it may also reach into the 3rd and 4th grade science curriculum) as a way to enhance the previous STEM grant in the elementary.
If you would like to get involved with the Endowment Foundation, please feel free to contact Ellen Pullins at ellen.pullins@utoledo.edu

Knight In Shining Armor
Knight In Shining Armor and NHS are collecting donations for school supplies for students who have been affected by Hurricane Harvey. We are still determining details regarding physical donations, but in the mean time, we will be accepting cash donations at the sports pass tables TONIGHT at the football game. All cash donations will go to purchasing school supplies and hygiene items online and helping cover shipping costs to Texas.
Knight in Shining Armor will be participating in TWO movie fundraisers this fall. If you have little ones, save the date the weekend of October 6th-8th. Lionsgate is releasing My Little Pony: The Movie. When you order your tickets through Fandango, $1 from each ticket sale will be donated to the Knight in Shining Armor Fund. Stay tuned for more details to come!
