First Chapter Friday
The bestselling author of Thirteen Reasons Why brings us this festive First Chapter Friday. What Light tells the story of Sierra's family, who happen to run a Christmas tree farm in Oregon—it's a predictable setting for a girl to grow up in, except that every year, they pack up and move to California to set up their Christmas tree lot for the season. Sierra lives two lives: her life in Oregon and her life at Christmas. But this time, life won’t be so predictable when she meets Caleb. What Light is a love story that's moving and life-affirming and completely unforgettable.

First Nations, Metis, and Inuit learning corner
As our country moves toward reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, we thought we’d bring you a simple, easy way to move your own understanding forward if you’re curious about how you can be a part of the learning which leads to reconciliation. #Next150 was first introduced a couple of years ago, and we felt it was a good time to re-introduce it to the FR Haythorne community.
Each link will take you to a short exercise you can do to move your learning forward. Good luck & enjoy your second challenge.

Haythorne Animal Rescue Crew
Starting this week and continuing until Christmas break, the Haythorne Animal Rescue Crew will be collecting food and supplies for animals in need. If you are able to donate just place the item under one of the pet-themed Christmas trees in the foyer. All items collected will be donated to various Animal Rescue Organizations around the Sherwood Park and Edmonton area. The Crew will also be collecting new and used blankets (no stuffing please). These will be donated to dogs some of the northern pounds awaiting rescue. With the donation of a blanket, they do not have to sleep directly on a cold concrete floor.
