Holiday Care Box

We know that the last 2 years have been difficult for our families and community. Though the holidays can be “the most wonderful time of year”, this season can also be incredibly stressful and difficult for some of our families.

If providing for your family over the holidays will be a hardship for you, we invite you to fill out *THIS FORM* for a Holiday Care Box. We would like to provide items for a holiday meal for you and your family.

Please be reassured that your name and information will be kept private and confidential. Ms. Smith will be the only one who is aware of the families that are signed up and will contact you directly about setting up a time for delivery.

We will keep *THIS FORM* open until Wednesday, December 15th. Please don’t hesitate to fill it out if you would like some help this season. 😊

Wellness Advent Calendar for December

Asma our Mental Health Capacity Builder has created a Wellness Calendar that will be starting on December 1st. A new box will open each day starting December 1st.

Feel free to do this as a family. There will be a draw for cohort participation. We encourage our students to ask their teachers for the daily wellness activity.

Library Input Survey

Please take some time to fill in the Library Project Survey with your child. Take some time to talk with your child(ren) about what they do at lunch and how we can make that space more inviting and a hub for our school.

Please note that in order to fill in the survey you MUST HAVE AN EIPS email. We hope that this is an opportunity to share and discuss what your child is doing at lunch and how we can make FRH even better.

First Chapter Friday

The bestselling author of Thirteen Reasons Why brings us this festive First Chapter Friday. What Light tells the story of Sierra's family, who happen to run a Christmas tree farm in Oregon—it's a predictable setting for a girl to grow up in, except that every year, they pack up and move to California to set up their Christmas tree lot for the season. Sierra lives two lives: her life in Oregon and her life at Christmas. But this time, life won’t be so predictable when she meets Caleb. What Light is a love story that's moving and life-affirming and completely unforgettable.

First Nations, Metis, and Inuit learning corner

As our country moves toward reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, we thought we’d bring you a simple, easy way to move your own understanding forward if you’re curious about how you can be a part of the learning which leads to reconciliation. #Next150 was first introduced a couple of years ago, and we felt it was a good time to re-introduce it to the FR Haythorne community.

Each link will take you to a short exercise you can do to move your learning forward. Good luck & enjoy your second challenge.

Haythorne Animal Rescue Crew

Starting this week and continuing until Christmas break, the Haythorne Animal Rescue Crew will be collecting food and supplies for animals in need. If you are able to donate just place the item under one of the pet-themed Christmas trees in the foyer. All items collected will be donated to various Animal Rescue Organizations around the Sherwood Park and Edmonton area. The Crew will also be collecting new and used blankets (no stuffing please). These will be donated to dogs some of the northern pounds awaiting rescue. With the donation of a blanket, they do not have to sleep directly on a cold concrete floor.

Christmas Break

F.R. Haythorne will close for the Christmas break at the end of the day on Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2021. The school will reopen on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022. During this time, if you have any school-related questions or concerns, contact Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) Central Services at 780-464-3477.
