See the full rubric here: RUBRIC OUSD Grades K-5 EL Ed/Benchmark Learning Walk Indicators
For October, please continue to give SIPPS Mastery Tests for students in SIPPS, testing Below grade level. There are no additional district Literacy assessments.
Designated ELD is Mandatory for Every Classroom Teacher - See the information below.
Designated ELD is a protected 30 minutes during the day for students and teachers to explicitly focus on the language needed to engage with the EL Ed and Benchmark texts and tasks. EL Ed lessons are designed to target the language needed for ELA tasks and are constructed to develop the language needed to master learning targets.

Learning Targets Explained - Please post your learning targets.
Learning targets are...
Derived from state standards embedded in school or district documents such as curriculum maps and adopted program materials.
Written in student-friendly language and begin with the stem “I can...”
Measurable and use concrete, assessable verbs (e.g., identify, compare, analyze). The verb suggests the way in which the target will be assessed.
Specific, often referring to the particular context of a lesson, project, or case study.
Focused on the intended learning, not the intended doing. That is, they are phrased as statements about the skills or knowledge students will develop as opposed to what students will complete (e.g., “I can describe the ideal habitat for a polar bear” vs. “I can write a paragraph about the habitat of a polar bear”).
Matched to the cognitive process demanded of students (e.g., knowledge, reasoning, skill)

Reminders
Please enter absences into Frontline at least 48-72 hours in advance (unless of course it's an emergency) so we can assure we get a substitute teacher for the day if needed.
2. When filling our referrals I need the forms to be filled out completely, especially the top portion with the three pre-referral interventions.
3. Teachers need to be contacting parents every time a student gets a referral.
4. Enter all maintenance requests on the Fix-It ticket google sheet.
Universal Extended Learning Wednesdays -
Hello, MLK Teachers!
We will be starting the OEA Contractual Universal Extended Learning Time. This is the time for teachers to give extended enrichment and intervention learning to the students. Students must have applied to participate. Applications will be given out to each teacher on Monday, September 11, 2023 for teachers to distribute to go home. Give the completed forms to Ms. Johnson.
Teachers, post the flyer on your Parent Square page. Make sure that you spread the word to the teachers.
Special Education teachers will support General Education teachers by doing the interventions in their prospective classrooms that I organize for them. If the Sped. Ed. teacher has students that are staying for the 30 minute timeframe, then they will work with their own students.
Here is the breakdown again.

2:10pm - 3:00pm - Teacher Universal Prep Time
