STANWOOD HIGH SCHOOL
FAMILY UPDATE FOR WEEK OF JANUARY 30, 2023
SHS VISION STATEMENT
Stanwood Spartans are united in cultivating character, modeling respect, teaching leadership and connecting to community.
JANUARY 30TH - NO SCHOOL
JANUARY 31ST - YEARBOOK SALES
FEBRUARY 3RD - ADVISORY
Students will have advisory on Friday, February 3rd.
**Beginning on Friday, February 3rd, we are switching advisory teachers for students. Students will stay in their 2nd period class for advisory. This will eliminate the need for students to leave class and go to another classroom. We are piloting this change for second semester. We hope this change will provide more support for students and decrease the number of students skipping advisory.
FEBRUARY 6TH - CLASS FAIR
We will be offering a class fair for the 2023-2024 school year on Monday, February 6th. This will take place in the evening in the commons area.
Students will be submitting their course requests for the 23-24 school year in late February. This class fair provides students and families an opportunity to talk with teachers about various courses we offer.

VOLUNTEERING AT THE HIGH SCHOOL
I volunteer on Mondays in the high school and seek to be a source of encouragement to students and faculty. I enjoy meeting new students and hearing about their week in sports, projects in the arts programs, or talking about the new trends and current events. I am a SHS alumni, class of 2005. I want to help encourage the next class of Spartans as they pursue their goals in life and also support the amazing teachers and faculty at the high school.
We are calling our parent group "Community Builders" and if any parents are wanting to volunteer please email Ted McCammant at tedmccammant@gmail.com

REMINDER: HIGH SCHOOL & BEYOND PLAN REMINDER/UPDATE
The High School & Beyond Plan is a requirement for Graduation. The goal of this plan and process is to assist students in developing their goals or plans for after high school as well as plan to reach those goals during high school. Here are a couple of updates about this process:
Seniors:
The finished High School & Beyond Plan must be completed in Xello by March 31st. In general terms, seniors need to complete the 12th Grade Core Lessons listed on their Xello Profile. Once they have completed all of the lessons, including the Final HSBP lesson, they should email their counselor to let them know the plan is complete so they can check students off.
We highly recommend you having your profile as complete as possible. This will help when applying for schools and scholarships. Additionally, students can share this profile with people when asking for a letter of recommendation so the writer can include information in that letter. Students should make sure you list all of their activities, work experiences, key courses, athletics, volunteer experiences, and awards in the experiences section. To access Xello, students should go to the Stanwood High School website and click on the Xello Button, then use your SCHOOL Google Account to log in. Or go to: https://auth.xello.world/Google/Student/bddee471-c87a-46ba-96cd-e46b9f14b539
and use their SCHOOL Google account to log in.
Freshman, Sophomores, and Juniors:
As part of their High School & Beyond Plan, students must take a Career Interest & Aptitude survey. We are asking students to take the YouScience aptitude brain games. This inventory helps students identify their skills, abilities, and interests while linking them to potential careers and areas of study. Here are a video about the program: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYkD6vTn97A
Students are working to complete YouScience during advisory, but may also work on it at home. We are asking them to complete this by January 31st, so they can utilize the information gained from this work to help in the selection of classes for next year. Please encourage your students to complete this wo
