The McKinney-Vento Assistance Program protects homeless students from discrimination and mandates equal access to educational programs and services. Recently, the HSSD McKinney-Vento Coordinator, Kendra Kawula, and school social workers in collaboration with Student and Family Engagement Coordinator Kourtney Feldhausen and The Giving Tree supported an HSSD family experiencing homelessness.
The team secured housing through several community supports for the family, provided groceries, apartment furnishings, kitchen supplies, and more. The family received assistance and items that were donated from HSSD staff members in many of our buildings. We are grateful for our HSSD staff and community members for showcasing our caring learning community! Learn more about McKinney-Vento.
When Jada Krueger was at Lineville, her teacher Mr. Maricque challenged the class to build something using popsicle sticks and hot glue. Jada learned that Mr. Maricque had always wanted to make a model of his home. Together, they spent weeks learning about building plans, scale, sizing, and framing. Jada took the project home at semester and finished it as a surprise gift for Mr. Maricque!
