CONGRATS to the Amana families!! We raised over $10,000 combined with CCE for Jump Rope for Heart! Thank you all for your efforts in helping collect money for this worthy cause!
Thank you so much to the PTO for purchasing the Walking Classroom for us! This spectacular tool will allow us to take walks while learning for happy healthy kids and brains.
However, we would strongly encourage that your student has their own ear buds for sanitation reasons. Please check with your student to make sure this accessory is at school. Thanks so much! We would like to use them starting Wednesday!
Iowa Assessments are next week! (The dates are April 4th through the 8th. Make-up tests will be the following week.) 5th grade will be having 2 Math tests, 2 Reading tests, 1 Social Studies test and 1 Science test. We will not be testing on Monday. Please make sure your students are getting plenty of rest each night. With 6 tests, we will have at least one test if not two per day. We would like to have snacks brought in for each day so they can keep their stamina throughout the day. If you are interested in contributing to the healthy snacks for the week, please email your child's teacher. Both teachers are in need of two more volunteers. Thanks so much!
Our trip to the Capitol and the Museum have been set for Friday, April 15th. We will leave at around 8:30am. This day all students will need to have a sack lunch. If you need to buy one from the cafeteria, please let us know by April 1st. Also we will not be getting back from the trip until about 4:30pm. Information was passed out at PLP's. Let us know if you need another copy.
In social studies, we make billboards to convince other settlers to come to our colony. They then had to decide if that persuasion worked and then compare and contrast two of the colonies of differing regions. In reading, we focused on reading expository text using our Social Studies book as our resource. We also asked and answered questions and identified cause and effect. In writing, we are creating our own persuasive articles with strong reasons. In math, we are knee deep geometry with different types of triangles and polygons. Students can get on IXL Z.2 to help solidify their learning!
Learning Goals:
Social Studies/ Reading: I can compare and contrast two colonies in New England, Middle and Southern Colonies using a Venn Diagram.
Reading: I can ask/answer questions. I can identify cause and effect text structure.
Language: I can spells words that contain suffixes such as -less and -ness.
Writing: I can write to persuade using STRONG reasons.
